5.0 out of 5 stars lots of laughter, lots of tears
Taped live at the Elko Theater in Elkhart, Indiana, the first hour of this show is hilarious stand-up comedy, geared for women, who comprise about 90% of Chonda's audience. With her twangy voice and infectious giggle, some of her stories are sidesplitting, with a wide range of topics, from the horrors that can happen while she is on tour, and her "honeymoon package"...

3.0 out of 5 stars 80 Minutes of Chonda - Isn't that Special
After attending the taping of this video earlier in the year I knew the stories were funny and the music was touching. This video captures the concert well, although I was suprised by the decision to turn Q&A and the concert opening video into "DVD Extras". It makes the beginning of the concert odd.

If you are a Chonda fan this is a good look at her on...

5.0 out of 5 stars lots of laughter, lots of tears, January 14, 2004
Taped live at the Elko Theater in Elkhart, Indiana, the first hour of this show is hilarious stand-up comedy, geared for women, who comprise about 90% of Chonda's audience. With her twangy voice and infectious giggle, some of her stories are sidesplitting, with a wide range of topics, from the horrors that can happen while she is on tour, and her "honeymoon package" vacation in Cancun, to Nascar racing and husbands who like to hunt. There is something so real and likable about her, that she is endearing as well as funny, and she serves up a healthy portion of bright and refreshing entertainment.
Chonda also has a strong voice, with the kind of sound that would do well on a Broadway stage, and she sings three songs during the course of the tape.

The last fifteen minutes of the performance takes a 180* turn, and her audience goes from laughter to tears. Chonda tells of her trip to Israel and visiting the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and also about taking her daughter to a Passion Play in Arkansas; it is powerful testimony, spoken with sincerity, and so very moving; it would be hard to watch this without weeping, and it is my favorite part of the tape.
At the completion of the show, there is a music video where Chonda is joined by Sandi Patty for a rousing rendition of "The Girls Are Back in Town", with punk hair and a spunky attitude.
Called "The Queen of Clean", this wonderful comedienne from Tennessee is immensely talented, and her ministry goes straight to the heart. Total running time is 87 minutes.

3.0 out of 5 stars 80 Minutes of Chonda - Isn't that Special, September 24, 2003

If you are a Chonda fan this is a good look at her on stage in one of her favorite places. Her stories are on the mark and the music is good. There is an audio editing flaw on the Sandi Patti Video ... a bit strange, but the concert itself and the revealing Q&A segment are worth the price.

I saw Chonda in person at the Women of Faith conference earlier this year. She was so funny, I decided to buy this DVD. I laughed so hard watching it! We recently took a long road trip, and I put this DVD in the car for the kids (girl age 12 & boy age 11) as an option. My daughter watched this one several times, and she laughed pretty much non-stop through the video. It's nice to be able to share a stand-up comedian video with my kids. My son was less impressed (probably no shock there), but I did catch him at least smiling a few times.

5.0 out of 5 stars I laughed so hard I almost wet my pants!, November 25, 2003
This review is from: Chonda Pierce - Have I Got a Story For You (DVD)
Chondra is Absolutely Hilarious in "Have I got a story for you". As a Christian comedian, she takes you from laughter to tears and back to laughter again. Her stories about her real life experiences are too funny! My favorite ones would have to be her take on Nascar and the time her husband got caught up in Airport security with her carry-on bag. I would recommend this dvd or video to anyone who is in need of a good laugh and some good clean fun!

A real breath of fresh air. She brings humor to us without vulgarity and profanity. Everyday situations brought to life with a slice of spirituality and comedy. A true delight in Person. I saw her at this years "Women of Faith" conference in Fort Wayne IN and she is hilarious. The coliseum was full of laughter and smiles. You will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't be so uptight., December 4, 2006
This review is from: Chonda Pierce - Have I Got a Story For You (DVD)
First, her name is Chonda not Chondra. Second, in response to the review about Chonda not being so funny...seriously, you need to lighten up. What makes Chonda so funny is that she see's humor in everyday life. Because her husband and friend's husband had a honeymoon package to Cancun to save money doesn't mean she approves of homosexuality, she just found it funny that her "all man" husband had to go through that. I have listened to every one of Chonda's CD's and am here to tell you that the girl is hilarious. She also has a wonderful gift of presenting God and His blessings in all her shows. It is just like she has been quoted saying, "It has always been about more than the laughter."
People need to learn to laugh at themselves every once and a while.

Chonda Pierce does great "down-home" comedy, primarily aimed at women, but doesn't leave the men entirely out of the picture. Her brand of comedy talks about differences between how men and women view their world in such a funny way, that you can't help but laugh. She is also an excellent singer and mixes her two talents to create hilarious parodies of popular songs that you'll want to hear many times. More importantly, however, is that time near the end of each program when she will tell a story from her personal life that will tell everyone that no matter how deep their personal pain is, Jesus is there to bring you back to life. While the phrase "You'll laugh, you'll cry" has been heard in many places, here it really is the truth. I have most of her programs and enjoy them all.

1.0 out of 5 stars Christian comedy? Not so much., November 24, 2010
This review is from: Chonda Pierce - Have I Got a Story For You (DVD)
If you're going to bill yourself as a Christian comedienne, you should heed the Bible's warning against tearing others down. Unfortunately, Chonda Pierce's comedy leans to the destructive side rather than the edifying side I was anticipating. While some of her jokes were funny, I found many of them to be hurtful and not made in a Christian spirit. As another reviewed commented, she made fun of a man in the audience because he was balding and sweating quite heavily. The poor man looked so uncomfortable as the camera zoomed in on his bald, sweaty head and Chonda led the whole auditorium in laughing at him. This was the most overt instance of mockery, but there were others. She made fun of some fans and joked about a dead body that she found in her hotel room (while she could have made up that story, it is distasteful nonetheless).

In addition to the overtly offensive jokes, her jokes about men really crossed the line into insulting them. Certainly joking about the differences between sexes can be funny, but the tone and language that she used were not loving or funny. I felt that at no point in the movie she expressed respect for men as a group, although she did indeed acknowledge her appreciation for her husband.

All objections to content aside, her delivery was poor. She was laughing so hard at her jokes that she could barely get them out. This really distracts from the routine. Instead of focusing on the material, you just sit there waiting for her to deliver the joke. After about an hour of her comedy routine, she abruptly switched into a long, tearful testimony (again, after making fun of people for the past hour!). It was a very strange addition to an evening of "comedy."

In short, I did not find Chonda Pierce's comedy to be uplifting or reflective of the Christian spirit by which she markets herself.
