MUST HAVE FOR 1-2 year old Choo Choo Lovers!,
By
This review is from: Choo Choo (Board book)
This book is a must have for 1-2 year old choo choo lovers. My son absolutely loves this book and reads it 3 or 4 times before bed each day. At 20 months now he knows it by heart, and is especially interested in the noises the train makes as it makes it's journey (choo choo, off we go. clack clack, over the bridge, etc.). It is perfectly written to stimulate little minds. I cannot believe I am the first reviewer!

"Choo Choo" is a simple board book, with cutouts. It has been a favorite of my daughters for some time now.
It is a story of a train ride to the beach, most likely based on the London-to-Brighton line. The key to the book it seems, is the simple but effective and very colourful illustration, along with strategic cut-outs which fascinate children. The text is simple and repetitive so kids like it. My daughter has enjoyed this book since she was 6 months old. She wants me to read it to her again and again, sometimes 3-4-5 times in a row and will stick her fingers in the cut-outs etc. On the back of this I have bought her some other books by the same author. She has enjoyed them but none have her hooked as much as this one. So that is the highest praise I can give this book!

My 2 year old son LOVES this book, and he normally prefers longer picture books. My soon repeats phrases from this book while we drive in the car...like, "Rumble Rumble, Into the Tunnel!"
I also like this book since it is so easy to read that your toddler can memorize it and "read" it back to you. This is an important pre-reading step, so it is great to see him doing that.

We have checked this book out of the library several times, and I'm now buying it because my 21-month-old son loves it so much! He has it memorized, and even after we return it to the library he will say the phrases from the book during play time ("Rumble, Rumble into the tunnel . . ."). A must have!

toddler heaven,
This review is from: Choo Choo (Board book)
My son (20 months) loves this. The pages are cut irregularly so they are easy for him to turn and have additional tactile interest. The text is very simple, encouraging sound effects and elaboration. The illustrations are bold and colorful, and you can never go wrong with choo-choo trains as a topic.

My son loves this book!,
This review is from: Choo Choo (Board book)
I first checked out from library when he was about 1 year old and he loved it then, just checked it out now when he's almost 2 and he still loves it, so figured I'd buy it--[...] bucks is cheep! He loves to peek through the openings of the train tunnel, and he especially loves it when I make rhythmic train sounds between reading each page. Others of his favorite books are "Peek-a-Who", "10 little ladybugs" and Sandra Boynton's "Blue Hat Green hat" and "Doggies" for an idea of what his taste is.

Love Horacek books!,

We own many of Petr Horacek's books. Both of my kids have loved them. They are simple. They are catchy. Both of my kids quickly memorized the stories. I love them because I could use them to get my toddlers to stop crying in the car or to get them to hold still during a diaper change. I can start the story, which I also have memorized, and they would join in and finish with me. It's like musical literature. Great for toddlers! I would say their favorites have been: Choo Choo, Beep Beep, and Bird Fly High. They also like: What is Black and White, but it's not so much a story. When my oldest got a little older, she quite liked Butterfly, Butterfly. It's a hardback book with flaps, so not as much a toddler book... at least not the type you would leave out in a toddler's reach.

It's a hit in our house! I love "Beep Beep" even more but my 2 y.o. might disagree. The unique cut outs on the pages give the rolling hills and scenery of the story an undulating and rhythmic quality--much like riding on a train! "Rumble, rumble into the tunnel" is out favorite page whereupon the train plunges into darkness but there is light at the end of the tunnel. We introduced this book right before a train trip and our child was very excited, and not at all scared, by the real tunnels thanks to the prior knowledge he gained from "Choo Choo." The repetition of simple phrase structure is perfect for a toddler's learning curve but also mirrors the audible clickety clack of an actual train's journey.

This is by far my daughter's favorite book, and has been for over 6 months. We were introduced to this book at baby story time at the library. She loves the pictures, and the way that each page has a different shape. We count the trees and people on the train. I had no idea when we purchased this how many hours and hours we could spend with one board book! We now give this book as gifts to all the toddlers we know!

After just a few reads, my three year old twins practically have this memorized. They each have their own and read it over and over....
