5.0 out of 5 stars Surprised & Delighted
We orded this video for our 23 month old son whose gone "train-crazy!" We already have several videos which feature steam railroads and we are frankly tired of watching them. When this video arrived we were looking forward to something new--we were looking forward to a new video! But, we were surprised and delighted with the beauty of the trains in this video...

2.0 out of 5 stars Choo Choo Trains-close up and very personal
I was disappointed with this video. The pictures were okay but there was no spoken information about what you were watching. My children like to learn about what they are watching and there was no explanation for what the train engineers were doing or what type of engine they were on. Also, most of the engines that they showed were very old and not what your child sees...

We orded this video for our 23 month old son whose gone "train-crazy!" We already have several videos which feature steam railroads and we are frankly tired of watching them. When this video arrived we were looking forward to something new--we were looking forward to a new video! But, we were surprised and delighted with the beauty of the trains in this video which are definitely at a much higher esthetic level than we'd seen in other steam-train productions. There are several trains filmed crossing river bridges where the train is reflected in the water. There are cold weather shots where the engine is seen emerging from its own self-created cloud. There is Fall colored foliage--a bright yellow and orange, to contrast with the black engines. There's a shot of four steam locomotives linked and all blowing smoke together. Many trains are with multiple engines. There are Snow-blowers and Snow-plows at work clearing the tracks. We have riden on several of the trains featured and it was fun to pick out our old friends: the Durango to Silverton in Colorado and the Cumbres and Toltec in Colorado and New Mexico, for example. There's a surreal quality to this video. The steam engines really seem alive. Oh, and before I forget, our 23 month old son loves this video too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Train Movie, October 12, 2000
By
This review is from: Choo Choo Trains Close Up [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This movie has been loved by my 7 year old son , my 6 year old nephew, and now my 19 months old son who must watch it a minimum of 3 times a day. There is no narration or music to clutter it up. Just trains, trains and more trains with lots of wonderful train noises. Interesting for parents to watch as well. Great scenes of mountains and snow, tunnels and bridges. Highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars Visually captivating and rich, May 15, 1999

This is a favorite video of our 3 year old son and his parents! This is all visuals and sounds; no narration or music. Its a fresh break from the usual young child's videos, in terms of inane music, narration or actors. Just compelling shots of trains in all seasons and settings, with no fast cuts, and interesting shots.

My 22 month old LOVES this video, and so do I. It features trains. Only trains. No annoying narration. No annoying music. Just plain trains and train sounds. My son asks for it when he wakes up, and asks for it when he's going to bed. I think he dreams about it. In any case, it gets big thumbs up from me.

This video shows trains old and new travelling through many scenic venues. My son loved listening to the real train noises. He'll watch it over and over. It was refreshing to have no dialogue. I enjoy watching it with him. This is a fantastic video for children interested in trains.

5.0 out of 5 stars If your child loves trains this is the video for them!, March 15, 2003

I bought this video for my grandson when he was 1-1/2 yrs. old. Every time he came to our house he went straight to the VCR and put in this video. He would then sit on grandpa's lap for the entire length of the video - never moving. He is now 2-1/2 yrs. old and still love this video. If you like trains and nothing but trains this is the video for you. There is no hokey music - just the wonderful sounds of trains chugging along blowing their whistles. At first all he noticed was the trains but now that he's older he's noticed the different types of trains - snow train and the train that takes on water at the stop - he just loves this video. I highly recommend this tape for train lovers everywhere!!

My 2 year old keeps asking to see this movie and he's fascinated by all the trains and sounds each time. It's a wonderful escape and soother at the same time. I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great "second" train video., January 29, 1999

My son enjoys this video because its visually interesting. There is no narration , just train sounds. That's not necessarily a bad thing as long as you (the parents) have the answers every time your kid asks,"what's that?" I recommend There Goes A Train as a companion to this video because Engineer Dave explains everything in an informative and entertaining way.

My 3 year old son watches this video over and over and over again. It's definitely one of his favorites. Don't expect any dialogue because there isn't any. This video just shows train after train - mostly steam trains. It's good quality video and the scenery is quite beautiful at times.

Okay, I was expecting some dialogue in this film but there just isn't any except for the end when children are warned not to play in train yards. It would be nice if they did explain a few things as to what is going on so that it would be more educational. It's quite interesting and a few words of "what's this?" would have been nice. But, by far, this is one fantastic video. It shows all sorts of trains, even the snow-clearing one which I've NEVER seen in real life. That was quite fascinating to watch. It's great how it begins - one big long whistle blow which made my little one just go, "Ohhh!" This is a great video and a much welcome relief from the Thomas videos. This is a real-life train video and not a cartoon. What a nice job!
