Book Description

Riley St. Claire has always followed her own rules. When she discovers her current employer is not as law abiding as she thought, she has to leave town in a hurry or end up buried with the dead guy she discovered. What she doesn’t expect is to find herself being picked up by a passing trader from another world.
As the ruling King of Sarafin, Vox d’Rojah, was expected to produce a son who would be joined in marriage with the first born daughter of the King of Valdier. The problem was Vox had no intentions of having any sons, at least not in the near future. He was quite happy with the wide selection of females he had at his disposal. When he is captured by a ruthless Valdier royal and sold to a mining operation the last thing he expected to find with his bride mate.
Vox isn’t sure which would be easier: fighting another war with the Valdier or capturing and holding onto the human female who is unlike anything he has ever encountered before.
Now, Vox has to escape back to his world while fighting pirates, traders, and Riley!
The King of Sarafin has met his match with Ms. Riley St. Claire from Earth. Now, he just needs to figure out a way to let her know he has chosen her as his Queen and he has every intention of keeping her by his side forever.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Riley came about from the exploits of one of my friends who had been a bailbonds man (woman). I couldn't help but think 'what if' someone with an over the top personality was kidnapped by aliens. What would she be like? Riley St. Claire from Denver, Colorado was born. She was one of those who always saw things a little differently, had a heart as big as Texas and a mouth to go with it. I knew I needed an alien male who was the perfect mate for someone like her. But, who? She would eat most males up and spit them out without even realizing it if they weren't tough enough. Yet, if they were too tough, she would shy away. How could I find that perfect balance of tough and yet vulnerable at the same time? The answer came in the shape of a cat-shifter named Vox. He was tough as nails on the outside yet was totally enchanted with Riley. He was willing to learn, not change, and adapt, not give in. He was patient yet still macho. He was perfect. The supporting cast of characters only draw you in deeper as you see just how big and soft a heart Riley has for those she loves. She is willing to do anything, including die, to protect those she considers her new family; whether they are a two-headed lizard named Fred or a huge lime green blob named Bob. No one is safe when Riley is around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laughing Out Loud Fun March 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the first time I've written a review but had to on this book. I haven't laughed so hard while reading in a long time. Loved Riley & Vox. I have the complete series and have enjoyed them all. Can't wait for Viper's story and look forward to trying her new series starting with Indiana Wild.

3.0 out of 5 stars Laugh out loud but very trashy character March 22, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have very conflicting feelings about this book. I LOVE S.E. Smith and have devoured all of her books (repeatedly)but this one, while I was laughing out loud (which is bad when you are eating lunch at a restaurant) I found Riley uncomfortably trashy. I did see how the author explained her background and how she got to be so mouthy but I never saw any development/growth of her character nor her relationship with Vox. Did they EVER have a conversation? Which makes me only so/so on looking forward to the next installment of the Sarafin Warrior series. Will her sister Tina be as ball busting? Will Viper be any better?

Would I recommend this book, yes - just for the laughing out loud, no thinking enjoyment.

While writing this review I have been thinking . . . which of S.E. Smith's I love the best . . . Gracie's Touch? or Capturing Cara? Abducting Abby?

I may have to go back and read them again, good thing it is Friday!

5.0 out of 5 stars Riley Rocks! March 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
SE Smith has hit another homerun with her latest book Choosing Riley. We briefly met Riley in Cornering Carmen and just from that small glimpse I couldn't wait to read her story and it doesn't disappoint.

Miss Riley St. Clair from Denver, Colorado is a force of nature and right from her first appearance is driving aliens of all races out of their minds. Mostly poor Vox, the Sarafin King who just can't get any respect from his mate who not only refuses to acknowledge that she is his mate but is constantly putting him on his butt.

The supporting characters that SE comes up with are once again marvelous, Fred and Bob... classic SE! To say nothing of the other Sarafin, Tor and Lodar who are also mesmerized by our little tornado named Riley.

Near the end of the book we are introduced to Vox's brother, Viper who is charged with retrieving some of Riley's family. To say the least Grandma Pearl is a pistol... literally and it looks like we'll be seeing poor Viper attempting to woo Riley's sister Tina.

I look forward to the next adventures in this series. Along with all of SE's other series this one is highly entertaining and you won't be able to put it down.

2.0 out of 5 stars Crappy Characters February 18, 2014
By JoMo
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I just finished "Hunter's Claim" and loved it so I thought I'd try “Choosing Riley”.

I was shocked by how good "Hunter’s Claim" was and how bad "Choosing Riley" turned out to be.

Both Riley (heroine) and Vox (hero) are obnoxious jerks. I couldn't dislike these two characters any more. Riley is so over the top and white trash that I winced at all the many many dumb things she said and did. Top that off with the fact the author made her a "Mary Sue" (ie: everybody and I do mean everybody loves her and lusts after her nonstop. She’s the funniest, coolest, smartest person ever in the whole universe), and you have one horrible heroine.

And then there's Vox. Ugh. What a self centered, shallow, childish, sexist jerk! All he cares about is getting laid (by our Mary Sue, Riley) and owning her. She wants to go home to her family on Earth. Does he give a crap? Nope. Add to that that he thinks on several occasions that even though she's said "no" repeatedly to having sex with him and had to fight him off, he'll just go ahead and bang her and do a really good job so she'll change her mind after the fact and enjoy it. Ummm, yeah, that's called rape. No means no even when there's a shape shifting alien involved.

When Riley can't fight Vox off any longer and they do have sex, the act is anatomically incorrect: Riley is a virgin. Vox enters her but doesn't encounter her hymen until he's almost all the way buried inside her. FYI author, a woman's hymen is at the entrance of her vagina, not several inches in at the very way back. This mistake was odd and distracting to say the least.

5.0 out of 5 stars another great start to a new series March 15, 2013

S.E. Smith has just produced another great book. Riley is the funniest, snappiest, grittiest herione in a book that I have read in a long time. The repartee between Riley and Vox makes this a great read. If you like the Dragon Lords of Valdier series, you will enjoy this one. Riley is not just another simpering heroine. She is full of personality, and has the guts to do whatever she thinks she needs to do to save her mate. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and would recommend this highly. You meet some of the characters from the Dragon Lords of Valdier, and the tie in was done so seamlessly, it makes you want to read the other series if you have not yet picked them up. It was really a fun read, and was truly enjoyable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best Book Of The Series June 14, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Riley is a great character and her 5 hubbies all come to adore her. This is the best book that S.E. Smith has written to date, since Warrior's Claim, and in some ways surpasses it. Lots of humor, heart, and love. Riley and Vox are such great characters that they deserve a series of books about future adventures and mishaps. The supporting cast is great and should be incorporated into the books, but hopefully will receive a different treatment than the Dragon Lords of Valdier series. The Dragon Lords became the same story told over and over again, with just a change of names and the occasional addition of the slimy BDSM.

Riley, Vox and friends are so interesting because they actually come to like and accept each other, after a lot of damage to personal parts, ships, and a hellish mine. Lots of cooperation, not domination, plus they are so darn funny!
