Editorial Reviews

Review

Jennifer's way with words, her transparency, and her biblical insight are the three main ingredients of this delicious read. Meet Jonah as you have not met him before, and as you do, meet yourself hidden in the nooks and crannies of his story. Be challenged, uplifted, and inspired as you interact with the God of second chances. --Jennifer Kennedy Dean, author of numerous books, including the best-selling Live a Praying Life; Executive Director of the Praying Life Foundation

Devlin communicates principles from the adventures of Jonah in a unique manner that brings it to life for readers wrestling with similar issues today. Her words provide ample hope that God is a God of second chances. You will not be disappointed. --Dillon Burroughs, best-selling co-author of What Can Be Found in LOST

Jennifer's honest writing goes for the heart, and yet she willingly steps into the difficult waters with her readers. She's been there on the run like Jonah and knows what it means to go astray in her own plans and thoughts. Drawing from biblical and present-day stories, she weaves in hope in a faithful God who loves and restores. This book powerfully brings us face-to-face with the God of second chances. --Jan Kern, author of the Live Free Series

Are you running from God? I never thought I was the kind of person who ran from God, but Jennifer's book has given me a whole new perspective. It caused me to look deep within myself and make some tough decisions, yet ones that are making positive changes in my life.

"Jonah and the great fish" is often considered from a child's Sunday school viewpoint but after reading this book you will have an entirely new and personal way to apply it to your own life! I consider it a great resource for individuals or group studies. I guarantee it will stir the conversation.

Format: Paperback
I just finished reading this book, and I can't wait to encourage all of my friends to read it as well.

Jennifer Devlin confronts the climate of today's Church by taking us to a story of rebellion thousands of years old. This book reacquaints readers with the story of Jonah, so familiar to those who grew up in Sunday School programs or Vacation Bible School, in such a way that we cannot help but see ourselves in Jonah's thoughts, actions and spiritual condition. Devlin brings us through a journey, from running from God, making poor choices, blaming others and out and out rebellion to coming back into right relationship with God and the grace and mercy God offers. The stories and analogies in this book make it easy to read, but leave us with plenty to prayerfully consider about our own lives.

Choosing to Run is an excellent individual study, but I believe it is one of the best books I've seen in years to use in a small group or Sunday School class. In fact, I am recommending this book to the leaders of my own Sunday School class. I can't wait to see "aha" moments and changed lives through the study of this book.
