I will start by saying I read a lot. I read a variety of books over the years and lately it seems like I am reading the same stories over and over again. It's like they change the authors name and a few situations in the story and ta-da a new book! So naturally I feel I've been in a slump just waiting for something to really pull me in. I found it finally. Well written and a fresh storyline kept me reading and interested. Now I can't say I loved everything about it though. It has a cliffhanger ending which I hate most about a lot of these stories lately. I would rather pay a little more for a full story than wait for the next release. Sometimes I don't even bother to buy the next one because by the time they come out I forget what the first one was about. I will however be buying the next one in this series.

Pros for me: good writing
good story telling
strong characters
fresh storyline (not overdone)

Cons for me: CLIFFHANGER! :(
ended to soon (I wanted more)

Overall I would definitely recommend this to a friend to read.

I loved this book! I read a lot of books. Lately, I have read more duds then good ones. I have several books that I just couldn't get myself to finish. It kills me to waste money on bad books, but you cannot make me waste my time too. So, I tell you this because I freely admit that I might be a little bit of a book snob with having expectations.

It is a talent to write books with a great plot line, characters that aren't cheesy, but interesting and talk like normal people. I say this is a talent because there are so many people out there now in the electronic book world that are"trying" to be authors, but don't know how to execute it properly. This author does!!!! I couldn't put it down and boy did she have my emotions on a roller coaster ride that I didn't want to end. Buckle up - it is that good!

I cannot wait for the next book! This book didn't end with me going, "geez another installment I have to buy to read this entire story" Nope. It left me feeling like a kid eager for Christmas to come so I can unwrap the next gift. Because believe me, this author has a gift for writing.

I love the characters - Garret and Jade are so complex and two totally broken characters. However, even though each are broken for different life reasons and circumstances, they fit with each other and for each other. I felt for each of their struggles and I am totally rooting for them.

I will for sure buy the next book and anything else this author writes. This author deserves this five star review and if I could give bonus stars I would! This is a must read, two thumbs up, totally worth every penny and second of your time book. Hit buy and enjoy!!!!

I'm getting so upset with paying for this books that are not books. It simply ended in the middle of the story. I'm all adding a little something to leave room for another book, but the book should be able to stand on its own regardless. But absolutely fell in love with the story and characters. If it was a whole book I would have given it 5 stars for sure.

Choosing You is an intriguing story that is definitely worth your time. It is very well written and it is in no way vapid or superficial like so many new adult books are these days. The potentially powerful political and criminal aspects of the story only add to the mystery surrounding Jade, her birth, her parentage, her mother's death and Frank, her mother's friend and Jade's legal guardian. And then there is "the letter" that sets in motion a chain of events that we get a small taste of in this book but will likely be a major factor in book 2.

The protagonist, Jade, is spirited and tenacious and fights hard to overcome the whispering demons her dead mother left her with. She has her weak moments but what you see is what you get with her and she does not back down when her life starts to get a little crazy and she realizes that there is more to her life story than she ever realized. She is tough and she is a fighter and she is determined to figure out what went on in the past and what will happen in the present if she does not back down and let it go. Someone is anxious to silence her.

Garrett is a likeable character and he and Jade are quick to connect and become friends but there are secrets and lies between them and Garrett struggles with the family rules that bind him. His friendship with Jade (and maybe more) is not appreciated by his family and threats are made in an attempt to keep them apart.

I am really looking forward to reading the next book and, from what the author says at the end of Choosing You, the second book is already written and will be ready to be released soon. I know how much some people hate cliff hangers and I personally think it is a huge mistake for an author to wait too long between books, so I hope this one will be out soon. In the meantime, take a chance on Choosing You - it is a smartly written and intelligent story and I don't think you'll be disappointed! Verified Amazon purchase on Amazon.ca.

Review:

I confess that I have a fondness for the cliché and overused lame rich boy/poor girl trope in my romance. Yes, it’s cheesy and stupid, but I can’t help it. So, overall, because of this I took up this book and it’s a cute read, but also has some parts that I’m not really over the moon about.

Let’s start with the heroine Jade. She didn’t really speak to me much because she was simply too, well, jaded (bad pun). It was difficult to warm up to her and I sincerely hope she gets better and isn’t such a pile of distrusting disillusioned misery anymore.

I also wasn’t too wild about the way the pace was handled at the end and the mayor cliffhanger. The overall pace was nice and reasonable, but suddenly in the end it picked up tenfold and it was like BAM, the plot arrived. Beforehand, I could guess that something fishy was going on with the scholarship, but I didn’t really get a confirmation.

Also, it’s not really only the issue of this book, but so many new adult books seem to suffer under this. Why are all girls apart from the heroine so incredibly superficial and bitchy? Ok, there was one friendly girl, but all others were basically slutty bimbos. Ok, it had to be said.

I did like, however, how the relationship between Jade and Garret developed and wasn’t rushed. The focus of the book was almost entirely to build up their connection and it flowed smoothly, sweetly and believably. They spent a lot of time together doing various things, going to various places and simply got to know each other. There was also some spice to them and it was displayed by the sarcasm, teasing and banter they had going on. So I was grateful it wasn’t all mushy sap.
