Book Description

June 6, 2008
When George LeMaitre was a young man he went on house calls with his physician-father. He learned there is more to practicing Medicine than dispensing pills; that disease is best understood when the patient and environment are known to the physician; that he must teach patients healthy living while managing their illnesses. How many times have you chosen a physician only to discover perhaps too late that she didn t respond as you expected? Dr. LeMaitre has written a valuable book to help you make an intelligent choice of a good doctor. His advice is tempered with humor, personal stories, and a good dose of his own philosophy about the doctor-patient relationship.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book!, May 10, 2011
This review is from: Choosing Your Doctor: Twenty Critical Check Points (Paperback)
This book does an excellent job of explaining exactly how the incentives of our current insurance company/HMO led system are not benefiting you, the patient. Not only does this problem get discussed, which never happens in any sort of mainstream content, but solutions are proposed so that you as the patient can get the care you need, not the rationed care that is quickly becoming the status quo.

In general, Dr. LeMaitre writes this book with a distinct frankness and cuts through the crap that we're all told to believe. I applaud any person who is willing to come out and share the deficiencies of their industry. Clearly this is a work that encountered some resistance from the powers that be, which is a clear sign of the quality of the content.

Because health is such a central part of everyone's life, this is a must-read for anyone and everyone.
