2.0 out of 5 stars Great only if you are making pie, July 27, 2008

This review is from: Crank Cherry Pitter
This product works great only if you are making pie or jam. The opening is to small to feed Bing cherries and it really smooches the cherries up. Small pie cherries would fit fine. This thing would work really GREAT if you are cooking the cherries, but if you are trying to use the cherries fresh, like for a fruit salad in my case, it just destroys the cherry too much. It didn't really seem to explain that in product description, so I was dissapointed that it didn't work for what I wanted it for, but as soon as I need to make a pie or jam, I will be happy as a clam.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bing Cherry Pits too big to fit, July 9, 2009
This review is from: Crank Cherry Pitter
This pitter won't work with cherries pits that are the size in Bing cherries. They jam the mechanism. I haven't tried it yet with other types of cherries yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crank Cherry Pitter, May 26, 2010

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Crank Cherry Pitter
The cherries that I am pitting are tart pie cherries.
I had borrowed a cherry pitter very similar to this one several years ago and this one works like the borrowed pitter. This pitter does not, repeat does not remove 100% of the pits but it makes it so very easy to finish the pitting job. The one point to follow is remove the stems from the cherries and they will not gather at the pit output and things will work much smoother. I am retired but the wife still works for a while longer, so I am doing this the easiest way that I can find. I am satisfied with the results.
