marvelous chopin, December 10, 2003
This review is from: Chopin: Nocturnes (Audio CD)
mr. barenboim takes a subtle approach to chopin's collection of 21 night pieces. his playing is gentle and carefully adjusts to the mood of each piece. chopin created a variety of atmospheres in these studies, evoking the darkness, quiet, calm, but also the trepidation, unease, and unspoken gloom of the evening hours. mr. barenboim takes us through all of these feelings as he explores the nuances and colors of each nocturne. there are other equally excellent readings of this collection (artur rubinstein's final recording of them comes to mind), but i have thoroughly enjoyed each listening session of this set. highly recommended.

I used to own this exact recording, but I lost one CD and another was stolen. I just had to buy it again... Need I say more?
