Definately different, the musicality of the performances keep this one spinning in your CD for many days and hours. I too don't like the Nocturne Op 9, no.2's interpretation; however the Mazurka (Posth 67, no.2) makes up for it. I can't keep the Raggy feel of the Etude Op 25 no 9 out of my head. This two-piano performance is augmented by Janusz Olejniczak, one of the foremost polish Chopin interpreters alive today. I am a pianist myself who is partial to Chopin, so it is possible to define me as a purist, even so, I can't help but like this CD.

Great jazz, but may offend Chopin purists, January 14, 2000

This review is from: Chopin Vol 8 - Jazz (Audio CD)
As jazz trio music, this is about as good as it gets. But as a Chopin disc, it may have some detractors. My main objection (as a Chopin lover) is that the arrangements violate the spirit of many of the originals. Nowhere is this more evident than in the reworking of the Nocturne opus 9 no 2, which is given quite an upbeat, in-your-face treatment that is in direct contrast with the dreamy nostalgic feel of the original. The arrangements certainly are inventive, and stand on their own as great jazz compositions. The performances are above reproach. I just keep letting this one spin in the CD player.
