I discovered Glass Duo on YouTube after Josh Groban tweeted a link to one of their videos. I've been subscribed to them for a while now & I love their stuff. I strongly recommend that you look at some of their videos to get an idea of what this album is about.

They are Polish. They play an instrument that they call the "glass harp," which consists of a bunch of glasses with water in them. They make the glasses sing by rubbing the rims with their fingers. The glasses are tuned to give a variety of notes and are different sizes according to high or low the note is.

There is a small, classical orchestra behind, while this couple plays the glass harp. If you watch this couple, you see that they are quite energetic, moving quickly around this glass harp to create complex sounds.

In any case, the result is exquisite -- just a "must listen," especially if you are not yet familiar with the glass harp.

BTW, following Josh Groban on twitter is a good idea.

These two classically trained musicians are fantastic! One thing that I noticed from the other review, that they said they use water in the glasses is wrong. They only use water to wet their fingers to rub the glass rims. I saw an interview of them and they said they had to order thousands of glasses in different sizes and thickness' of glass to get all the correct notes they needed: small thin glass = high note, thick large glass =low note. Their music is mesmerizing. Highly recommend it.

If you love violins then you would probably enjoy this being that the resonance of the crystals produce a similar entrancing sound. I prefer it around Christmas time. Maybe if they did other classical music with it then I would enjoy those year 'round, but for this album it is basically seasonal even though there aren't any Christmas music on it. Just the feel of it.
