4.0 out of 5 stars Good!, September 22, 2004

Avoid One Thing are all about the melodic punk rock anthems with a knack for constructing punchy songs with great sing-along choruses. Assembled by bassist/singer Joe Gittleman, a founding member of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, this band has influences from all types of music throughout the album's 14 cuts. Gittleman carries the group with his accessible voice and ability to hook the listener in with lyrics from the heart that win you over. This album is one of those records that covers a little bit of everything as the songs will satisfy fans of the So-Cal punk sound, poppy-punkers, emo kids and even old school punks who hate everything. `All That You've Heard' sounds like a Rancid track, but not a direct rip off as it still manages to breathe own it's own. The female vocals utilized on songs like `Next Stop is the Last Stop' and `All That You've Heard' add diversity to the song writing and more importantly help make the music more interesting. Avoid One Thing definitely deserves some recognition for this release as it's solid from start to finish, which is something that most releases right now are not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong Second Album - Soulful Punk., June 12, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Chopstick Bridge (Audio CD)
These guys (and girl) have put out two of the best albums i've discovered in years.

Gittelman writes killer songs, and the albums are tight... real tight. I've seen them live a couple of times, and I'd recommend anyone who is searching for a great new band with punk veterans to give this disc a shot - can't fathom that you won't fall in love with Avoid.

I saw them with Alkaline Trio (another great band), and Avoid blew them away!

Pick it up and get into Avoid One Thing, you'll be amped.

5.0 out of 5 stars outstanding, May 22, 2004
This review is from: Chopstick Bridge (Audio CD)
I discovered the band when they were opening for The Mighty Mighty Bosstones a year or two ago and it has become one of my favorites. their new album is excellent and I agree with the previous reviewer that Amy`s influence has been most beneficial.

do buy this CD, this is quality stuff, these people put their soul into it. I just got it yesterday at their show - purchased it from Joe Gittleman directly - couldn`t wait for the copy I ordered from their record company (I suggest you buy here at Amazon if you want to have it delivered relatively fast). While you`re at it, get their first album if you don`t have it, and also get Navigating By the Stars by Justin Sullivan - I`m certain you won`t be disappointed.

I`ve never written an Amazon review before, but this time I feel obliged - the guys definitely understand what`s going on and their music helps a lot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Rockin Disc!, May 16, 2004
This review is from: Chopstick Bridge (Audio CD)
Well I just got through listening to the whole disc and I'd have to say, beginning to end, this album rocks! The album is very well produced and sounds great. The drums hit hard and precise, the guitar crunches nicely, the bass drives and the vocals rock. Avoid One Thing has a very unique sound compared to most other bands in their genre and it really stands out. Definitely pick up this album, you will not be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars A new thing that is familiar, May 4, 2004

If you've heard Avoid One Things other CD, the self titled one, you can tell that the songs here are similar. You can also tell Amy Griffin had her influence this time around, and it adds a great deal to the CD.

The CD is enhanced with an 18 minute long video that introduces the band. This by itself makes this CD worth buying and not just downloading. You'll never find a band that seems to be having more fun.

All in all, awesome CD and awesome band.
