A wonderful collection of songs interspersed with readings by Ram Dass from a variety of spititual texts. It is an incredibly peaceful album, helping me to be centred and remain focussed.

This is a mixture of kirtans, devotional songs in a call and response form, and readings by the great Ram Dass from selected indian classics (Kabir amongst others).

The music is certainly a whole lot more primitive than todays mantra-pop by artists like Krishna Das, Deva Premal and Jai Uttal, although the later actually takes part in the proceedings here with his always heartfelt and authentic chanting. But the emotions and the devotion is clearly there, and if there is a bum nore here and there it doesn't really distract from the overall impact.

Ram Dass' readings are beautiful, the texts of course well selected - few westerners knows more about Indian spirituality than he - and well read. Really pointing the listener towards the same silence from which the texts originated.

This fine CD ends with a guided meditation from Ram Dass. But great at this CD is, his recent "Meditations on the Gita" is far better!

These are mesmerizing Indian Chants. Obviously, if you have chanted before or participated in chants, you will really appreciate this; if you have not, then this will be a new experience for you to find out how hypnotic chants can be. Ram Dass has a deep, silky voice. Even though I am an Indian and have heard these chants since childhood; I have never heard them chanted so well, so mesmerizing.
