This review is from: The Chord Scale Guide: Discover Exciting New Chords with Linear Harmonization (Paperback)
This is a method of using harmonized scales (Linear Harmonization) - for example you play the myxolydian scale (Dominant 7th) using the root, 3rd, 7th of each of the constituent chords in the scale -- C7, Dm7, Em7, Fmaj7, Gm7, Am7, Bbmaj7 ending on C7 in the same manner that you play a single note scale.
These are the chord scales covered:
Major triads, Maj 6th, Maj 6/9, Maj 7, Maj 9 scales. Minor triads, Min 6, Min 7, Min 9 scales. Dominant triads, Dom 7, Dom 9 Dom 13. There are multiple examples of each scale, using different string sets and fingering.
The book uses chord grids, TAB and standard notation, and the information is very clearly presented -- it's a joy to use. The scales vary in difficulty and usability, but there are many usable scales in the book, and I have found it easy to incorporate fragments of the scales in improvisation. The chord scales are also very useful in chord melody playing.
As far as I know, the only other book that is exclusively devoted to chord scales is Jay Lacy's "Horizontal Chord Scales".
