What a find!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Chordettes: 25 All-Time Greatest Recordings (Audio CD)
This C.D. of one of the outstanding vocal groups of 50s and 60s, has terrific sound quality. All of the hits that I'm familiar with sounded even better than I recalled. I would highly recommend this to anyone with a strong appreciation for the harmony and genre of the 50s sound.

Doesn't Quite Deliver The Goods,
By AvidOldiesCollector (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Chordettes: 25 All-Time Greatest Recordings (Audio CD)
With all due respect to the other reviews, this CD doesn't quite measure up to the title. When you say "25 all-time greatest recordings" and the artist had exactly 14 charted singles hits [the goal of any recording artist at that time was a hit single], you should expect ALL fourteen, plus most of their B-sides.
In this they exclude their second charter, The Wedding [and its flipside I Don't Know - I Don't Care] which went to # 91 Billboard Pop Top 100 in January 1956, as well as 1959's A Girl's Work Is Never Done which, b/w No Wheels [also excluded], peaked at # 89 Hot 100 in August. While nice renditions of other's hits, tracks 6, 8, 9, 11, 12, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24 never charted for The Chordettes. They may have been included originally on some of their LPs, but to claim them as "all-time greatest" is stretching things a bit. Better bets would have been I Don't Wanna See You Cryin' [the flip of Mr. Sandman], Whistlin' Willie (Our Melody) [the B-side of Eddie My Love], Baby Come-A Back-A [the reverse of Lollipop], We Should Be Together [back of No Other Arms, No Other Lips], along with the two mentioned above. That would STILL have left some room for six LP cuts or failed singles and made this a true 5-star CD. You're far better off with the release by Collectables with the title "They're Riding High Say Archie."

Mr. Sandman...do that again,
By Master Pauper "Rick" (Frisco, TX, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Chordettes: 25 All-Time Greatest Recordings (Audio CD)
This CD is great if all you want is Mr. Sandman but, we get so much more. The harmony and precision that these ladies put into their act is remarkable, very much like the best Barbershop quartet of all time, the Buffalo Bills.
This CD is worth the cost. Just beware, I am allowed to sing along if I am alone but others want it quiet so they can appreciate the music. Did I say I am a bad singer? Anyway, Take a chance on this one.
