more metal than metal,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: A Chorus of Obliteration (Audio CD)
I initially wrote the Showdown off b/c of their use of clean vocals. I really can't stand them; no band pulls it off right. Or so I thought until I bought Chorus of Obliteration today. Finally, a band that can combine almost all vocal styles w/out sacrificing the brutal intensity demanded of metal. There's the chant-along choruses, death growls, even the occasional black metal shriek, and clean singing (that for once doesn't suck). While every other band forsakes quality in the name of diversity, the Showdown stick to the kind of music they love...releasing a debut that's more metal than metal. The only drawback was its length. I'm already breathlessly anticipating a follow-up.

The Album is amazing! This is the cd that brought me from being an only screamo lover to an all-out metalcore fan! There isnt a single song on the cd that i dislike. I bought it a while ago and it still has constant play on my cd player. So go check it out.

Non-stop, punishing metal!!,

I have been waiting months for this album to come out. Ever since hearing The Showdown on purevolume.com, I have waited with great anticipation for the full offering. I got it the day it came out, yesterday, and let me tell you - it does not dissappoint in any way. From the first track, "A Monument Encased In Ash," which is in my opinion the best, this cd just leaves you wanting more and more! The drums are perfect, double kick drum heaven...the screaming guitars are unbelievable, soaring through the solos and pounding out the rhythms...the vocals are great, except that the background singer(screamer)uses a voice distortion that I don't really like that much. But the Lead Vocalist has a great voice, screaming or otherwise. His talent is really showcased on the last track, which is the only mellow track on the song, and even that one gives way to screaming at the end, leading to a great finish. I have listened to this cd 3 times already since when I bought it last night, and as I write this review, I am listening to it again.
This is the band's first album, but you wouldn't know it by listening to it - it sounds as if they have been around for many years, and if they continue making music like this, they will be. Basically the one and only thing I don't like on this cd is the Backup Vocalist's distortion that was used on his voice, but that is such a small issue, especially on a cd of this caliber...buy this cd - it will not disappoint!
