4.0 out of 5 stars more metal than metal
I initially wrote the Showdown off b/c of their use of clean vocals. I really can't stand them; no band pulls it off right. Or so I thought until I bought Chorus of Obliteration today. Finally, a band that can combine almost all vocal styles w/out sacrificing the brutal intensity demanded of metal. There's the chant-along choruses, death growls, even the occasional black...

3.0 out of 5 stars Classic thrash meets numetal
I first saw these guys play with Project 86... My first reaction was that they are damned talented and they know how to put on an entertaining show, but I have never really been into the screaming. Well, since this show, my friends have gotten really into The Showdown and I have to admit, this cd has really grown on me. The instrumentation is remeniscent of 80's/90's...

A Kid's Review
This review is from: A Chorus of Obliteration (Audio CD)
I initially wrote the Showdown off b/c of their use of clean vocals. I really can't stand them; no band pulls it off right. Or so I thought until I bought Chorus of Obliteration today. Finally, a band that can combine almost all vocal styles w/out sacrificing the brutal intensity demanded of metal. There's the chant-along choruses, death growls, even the occasional black metal shriek, and clean singing (that for once doesn't suck). While every other band forsakes quality in the name of diversity, the Showdown stick to the kind of music they love...releasing a debut that's more metal than metal. The only drawback was its length. I'm already breathlessly anticipating a follow-up.

The Album is amazing! This is the cd that brought me from being an only screamo lover to an all-out metalcore fan! There isnt a single song on the cd that i dislike. I bought it a while ago and it still has constant play on my cd player. So go check it out.

I have been waiting months for this album to come out. Ever since hearing The Showdown on purevolume.com, I have waited with great anticipation for the full offering. I got it the day it came out, yesterday, and let me tell you - it does not dissappoint in any way. From the first track, "A Monument Encased In Ash," which is in my opinion the best, this cd just leaves you wanting more and more! The drums are perfect, double kick drum heaven...the screaming guitars are unbelievable, soaring through the solos and pounding out the rhythms...the vocals are great, except that the background singer(screamer)uses a voice distortion that I don't really like that much. But the Lead Vocalist has a great voice, screaming or otherwise. His talent is really showcased on the last track, which is the only mellow track on the song, and even that one gives way to screaming at the end, leading to a great finish. I have listened to this cd 3 times already since when I bought it last night, and as I write this review, I am listening to it again.

This is the band's first album, but you wouldn't know it by listening to it - it sounds as if they have been around for many years, and if they continue making music like this, they will be. Basically the one and only thing I don't like on this cd is the Backup Vocalist's distortion that was used on his voice, but that is such a small issue, especially on a cd of this caliber...buy this cd - it will not disappoint!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Nice Surprise, April 15, 2005
This review is from: A Chorus of Obliteration (Audio CD)
I picked this CD up at the Christian bookstore, because I was looking for some metal I could enjoy with a message that I liked. Now, you have to understand this is coming from a guy that has been playing lead guitar twenty years and cut my teeth on Judas Priest, Ozzy, Metallica, and Slayer and ultimately came to love bands like Megadeth, Pantera and Avenged Sevenfold. I hadn't heard the disc before and I was pretty much blown away by it. The sheer rocking attitude of this whole disc, and the talent of everyone in the band, their tightness as a musical unit, it's all awesome. Lots of little unique twists and different creative sounds throughout. You can't go wrong with this one, whether you are looking for christian metal or not. Bottom line, as someone else said, even if you are turned off by that, you would be passing up a truly great album to let this one slip by. In my opinion, the fact that it has a christian message is a bonus. "He's got the whole world in his hands" it's not. LOL. Seriously. Anyway, 5 stars in my book. If you love metal, do yourself a favor and check it out. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars ..., December 17, 2004
This review is from: A Chorus of Obliteration (Audio CD)
"Burial" by Extol was the last time a metal album has really impacted me. Since then I've grown tired of the faceless hardcore/metal scene and even tireder of bands who try to mix genres (aka, most metalcore bands) and get called "original"... even though they sound like every other freakin' metalcore band on the planet.

Their name sounds like they would be another generic gang hardcore band ala The Deal or any other Facedown Records band. Their sound is the perfect blend of the various hard rock genres... death metal, black metal, thrash metal, hardcore, oi punk, classic rock...

So it actually quite damaging to my pride that this cd is so fantastic. While there are mixed genres, it flows naturally and with purpose. It doesn't feel like they sat down and said "lets make a song that goes from death metal into some dirty rock." It just feels like they saw themselves as a rock band who wanted to write good songs.

Their influences are fairly easy to pull from the cd... Extol, Tourniquet, Metallica... yet unlike other bands, The Showdown has the raw talent to pull it off without it feeling awkward and unnatural.

I definately recommend this cd for hard rock fans. It's a tight, tight album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for basically christian metal, November 29, 2005
This review is from: A Chorus of Obliteration (Audio CD)
Let me prelude this by saying that I am an atheist. Big time. So I have no bias about this album or promoting whatever message it may contain. I saw this album in a Tower Records on a listening station. I skimmed through the songs not realizing that it was 'christian' metal & bought it that night. I didn't realize it was christian until I started reading the lyrics. It really doesn't bother me at all because the album itself is brutal metal. If you get past the religious theme of the lyrics or do what I do and take them as mythological, they do conjure up a feeling of medieval battle. I would easily see these guys doing a soundtrack of some sort for a Medieval Spawn movie or animation. The riffs are intense, the bass thick & heavy and the vocals are dark & foreboding. If you take some higher meaning from it, enjoy. If you're like me and enjoy good metal music, give these guys a shot, whatever your spiritual orientation may be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real Metal is finally back, March 29, 2005
This review is from: A Chorus of Obliteration (Audio CD)
Let me say first of all the album is friggin' amazing. This is the real deal metal, unclassifiable, just amazing Heavy Friggin' Metal. The guitar technique, the phenomenal drumming. These guys are going to be huge. They will change the face of metal as we know it. People say they are like In Flames, 3 inches of Blood. I think they are much heavier in places, and don't have ANY cheesy keyboards. They will be classified as metalcore, but they are different than Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, As I Lay Dying. They really integrate different genres of metal without sounding stupid and cheesy. They are Christian, but they are an amazing metal band. I cannot seem to quit listening to it. Speed, power, death, metalcore, its all here. Singing that is non-80's, Black Metal Shrieks, Death Growls, even some old school Grindcore Growls. If you love metal this is a must have. Simply crushing. Needs to be longer, and can't wait for the next album.

5.0 out of 5 stars God I wish more people knew about them, July 1, 2005
This review is from: A Chorus of Obliteration (Audio CD)
They look emo, theyre christian, and theyre from TN. Dont get the wrong impression. These guys are brutal and very VERY talented. Solos, wide range of vocals, and very catchy. The only con is that sometime they use sissy vocals but other than that the songs are metalcore/hardcore and even death at times. This is an awsome cd and if you havent heard about them then your a loser.

5.0 out of 5 stars OMFG, August 5, 2005
This review is from: A Chorus of Obliteration (Audio CD)
I picked up this CD about a week ago.....All i can say is, wow. These dudes bring the metal hard, and they bring it fast. I've been listening to hardcore, speed metal and whatnot, for about 4 years now, and i have yet to find someone who can match the intensity, musical consistency, and all around insanity that this band brings to the table. They are forthright with the fact that they are Christians, and i admire that with them. I've listened to this CD probably about 10 times through, and it only came in the mail yesterday!!! If you are a metal fan, in any way shape or form, u must pick this CD up. Every track is good. There is not a single track that i want to skip when listening to this CD, its that damn good....anyways, this is just the humble opinion of a sold out metal fan from TX....

Much love, and peace out to whoever reads this

Alan (i'm using my moms account)

P.S. BUY THIS FREAKING CD!!!!!!!!!!!!
