The Chosen Baby,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Chosen Baby (Hardcover)
27 years ago, I never knew what this book would mean to me. My parents bought one for my sister and then for me as we were adopted. They read it to us, and we understood as much as any toddler/child could. We knew how the adoption went, and to what ends out parents would go for us. But now I look back on my copy of this book, and smile. We spent a lot of time with it. It is colored in, and written on, and the binding is falling apart. I must have loved this book as much then as I do now. THank you. I'm buying a copy to give to a friend who just adopted a little Korean Boy. I hope he loves it as much as we did.

I'm almost 60 years old, and was adopted 60 years ago. I remember this book. I would recommend it to anyone with an adopted child under the age of 5 or 6; it's a primitive reader, with lots of pictures. My mother recently died, and among her effects was this book - which she wanted to go to my sister, who is also adopted. I'm hoping amazon.com can come up with a used copy for me, maybe more than one so I can use it as a gift for someone I know.

When I was adopted I was given this book. Of course, that was in the nineteen forties. This book has little value today describing the adoption process for children. At the time, however, it was excellent. I keep it as a memory.

I was intentionally looking for an old edition of this book as a special gift to someone adopting a child. The condition of the book was EXCELLENT! Things have really changed in adoption over the years, so it's not the best book for 'education' younger children....but the sentiment is always the same. LOVE of children!

A Chosen Baby,

The Chosen Baby is a book that i can identify with. My parents read it to me as a small child back in the 1950's. I loved the story and it made me feel special, because I was chosen, like the children in the story. I was wanted and loved . This story is part of Americana as far as I am concerned and I am purchasing it for a friend who is now in 2008 adopting a child. I know it might not be up to date, but It is an enjoyable story to help the child learn that she or he is chosen and therefore a special part of the family.

"A chosen baby",

I remember reading this book as a small child and it helps young children to understand what a blessing they are to their parents.Adoption 30 years ago was different than it is today, and this book touches on what was "acceptable" for the times. I have since met my birth-mother and that experience was fulfilling.

A Must-Have Book for adoptees,

In its day, this book was perfect for introducing the concept of adoption to children (that is, children born before 1980). Newer books offer colorful artwork and a more up-to-date story (How many couples today adopt not one, but two newborn babies without traveling out of the country!?) but the attraction of this book lies in the nostalgia of now-adult adoptees who knew the story when they were young. This is their story.I had the 1939 edition; this edition was not available until I was well beyond the read-to-me stage. By the time I could read it myself, I knew the story by heart.

My parents read this wonderful book to me over 30 years ago, the day they told me I was adopted. I was placed at birth into a very wonderful home. I felt so very loved and cherished by my parents, thanks to this book. I grew up in a military family, moving many times during childhood, and was able to keep this wonderful book, until it was lost in a Hurricaine in 1979. I am so hoping to be able to obtain another copy for our home one day, to share with my daughter the story of adoption as I had learned reading "The Chosen Baby".

I read this book to my adopted children 45 years ago. It was great to find a book that stressed the chosen aspect for them and helped to make them feel like the very special people they were. Now I want a copy to give to a young couple who have recently adopted a little boy. I hope Amazon can help me so I can help someone else.

Unchoosing the Chosen Baby,

Although the story is nice as far as it goes, it brought up to me the question of whether I could be sent back to the agency just as easily as I was adopted. It seems to be too much of a transaction with choices. If my parents could select me over other children, what would stop them from sending me back, in the event they were not satisfied?
