I have done extensive reading on the doctrine of election and must say that "Chosen for Life" is the best treatment of this subject I have come across to date. Sam Storms does a superb job of making a case for divine election, the textual observations were outstanding to say the least. If you are interested in an exegetical yet practical explanation of the Calvinistic view (as opposed to the Arminian view) of election, then this is a must read.
This book is a must-read for any true believer. We don't deserve it, but God loves us and chooses us. This writing gives detailed biblical backing for the fact that we can't earn our salvation. It is a gift of love from our Father.
Although this is more a text book than an easy read, any Christian needs to take the time to absorb its facts.
This book is very readable for the new believer and the more mature in Christ.....I wish I would have read this 20 years ago before I was mistaken on the doctrine of election....this will clear up many questions that most believers struggle with...get it!
While there are some areas that I would differ with Dr.Storms, Election is not one of them. This is a thourough, clear study of a disputed Bible doctrine that gives God ALL the glory for our salvation! One of the better presentations you can read. A MUST study for anyone who wants to honour the Father for His divine selection, and sending of His Son.
any book on election is a difficult read for anyone whose heart gets torn up in knowing that not everyone is going to make it to Glory. Does not compassion for other people (even ungodly people) come directly from Christ? My question to Mr. Storms (and the rest of the calvinist country club) is: how was he able to type it out without ruining his computer in a flood of tears? I have read other books on this subject, and the insensitivity toward the Ed's of the world just freaks me out (still kicking and screaming). However, it was this book (or was it the Lord) that is bringing me to understanding that God is loving, but He is also wrathful. Still, this book will remain hidden on a bottom shelf; don't want to scare people away from the Lord.
