5.0 out of 5 stars This could easily be "Diablo III"., January 3, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Chosen (Video Game)
With all the 'Hack-N-Slasher's' flooding the market these days, it's very
easy to overlook or just skip any new game of this genre simply because
we've all "Been there-Done that" a gizillion times since the good ol'e days of "Diablo".
So what does this title offer that the others of it's kind does'nt?
Well, honestly..not much.
But i will tell you one main thing it does offer,it's very addictive and
highly enjoyable. Remember how in 'Dungeon Siege' you were able to have companions fight at your side, well this title offers the same thing only
they are familiars-demons who level up according to how often you use them. Getting tired of using one, well you can dismiss one and summon the other, also the NPC characters (i.e villagers) are armed with Guns, clubs
bows ect. and if you save them from being a monsters next dinner, they will join you in battle(they're are computer controlled) until they are killed. This may not sound like much, but when you are surrounded by a horde of monsters, the NPC's help you thin out the mob, at one time i had
up to 6 NPC's w/ loaded rifles pegging off tons of bats and ghouls while
i headed straight for thier leader who hurlded fireballs in the background
and the little dudes w/ guns came through with deadly accuratecy.
This game was made by a foriegn company and i think this is thier first game, don't quote me on that, but i did read somewhere on the web that the
company is fairly new. Anyway's, give this game a try, it's not bad at all
and it does have a fairly decent story.
I would have given it 5 stars, but the voice acting sounds as if the company's budget did not make it possible to hire good voice actors, so
they they probably hired close friends or relatives to do the narration and character voices. Yes....the voices are THAT BAD!! If you can overlook
that aspect you'll find a very cool and entertaining game that will keep
you glued to your monitor for hours.
The Graphics are an A++ for this new and (I.M.O)talented company. I will
definitely keep my eye out for any future games these guy's put out.
NO need for patches, NO glitches, camera control is smooth and NO bugs.
What more can you ask for in a game? Diablo fans, don't overlook this one
because you have'nt heard of the company or you'll miss out on a great game and as we gamers know, good games of this genre have been few and far
in between over the past few years.

5.0 out of 5 stars An interesting RPG/3rd person shooter, February 12, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Chosen (Video Game)
A great game at a reasonable price.

I downloaded this "Diablo" like game from Meridian 4 for under $20.00; it turned out to be a good purchase. I'd classify this game as either a 3rd person shooter with RPG type upgrades or as a RPG with a 3rd person perspective. As with any game there were likes and dislikes...

The Pros:

1.)3 characters to choose from; a mage, a warrior or a projectile weapon specialist.

2.)You have the usual RPG characteristics to enhance (strength, dexterity, intelligence and vitality) with your experience points collected from battles. As well you have multitude of "skills" for your hero to choose from to upgrade; including offensive, defensive and 'other'. (see suggestions below)

3.)A huge variety of weapons ranging from magical staffs, swords, crossbows and even guns (to mention only a few); the better (and, of course, more expensive weapons) come with magical properties that increase their power, endurance etc.

4.)Excellent graphics and decent ambient background sounds/music resulting in good game play and atmosphere. (voice acting, however, was in another class altogether, [see Cons: 1.) below])

5.)Easy anytime quick save/load with F2 and F3 respectively, as well as auto-save at checkpoints. However, you do have the ability to save games through the 'menu save' option, which is very helpful if your unsure as to how to spend your upgrade points (and you want to try them out before you commit to them forever). 'Menu saves' are permanent and reloadable anytime. [see Cons: 2.) below]

6.)Useful, really useful NPC fighters. (who seemed to arrive just when your resources were dwindling rapidly)

7.)Although there are a few short dialogues with NPC to endure, you do not have to spend huge amounts of time going around talking to everyone you happen to meet.

8.)At least, 20 to 25 hours of game play.

Cons:

1.)Absolutely terrible voice acting.

2.)You can only have one quick save at a time; a new quick save overwrites the last one, and thus the previous one is lost forever. (Auto-saves are often far apart making the 'menu saves' a very useful feature).

Suggestions: *No specific spoilers but read at your own risk*

I played as a mage and these are some of the things that I did that worked out well and few things that didn't.

1.)Use your 'skill' upgrade points to increase

a.)'money' ($'s are always an issue for good/better equipment [and repair], spells, potions etc.)
b.)'NPC healing' (keep these guys around as long as possible; they can kill most anything while you reap the XP points and the $)
c.)'Nocturnal enemy weakening' (deeper into the game most enemies are 'nocturnal')
d.)'Magic skin' (reduces your magic damage)
e.)and finally, go for maximum 'decreases to enemy resistance' to fire, ice or ether (Max out at least 2 out of the 3), as these 'skills' are absolutely necessary for the end game area battles.

2.)The one 'skill' that I didn't use, and should have, was 'decrease rate of equipment wear'; I spent a fortune repairing worn out helmets and vests. You can die with surprising ease without some form of armor.

3.)If you decide to play as a mage, use your character XPs for major increases to 'intelligence', minor increases to 'vitality' (helps restore health and mana more quickly) and a small amount for 'strength' (allows you to wear some magical armor).

4.)I used some of my increasingly hard earned XP and skill points on a variety of other upgrades that had little benefit, and once these 'points' were committed, they're gone forever, (except if you used 'menu save' frequently)

Conclusions:
A fun RPG/3rd Person Shooter that had me playing for long sessions and returning to play it with any free time I had; plus it comes at an attractive price. It has excellent graphics and will provide many hours of interesting game play. 1/2 Star off for the voice acting, otherwise, 5 Stars overall.

3.0 out of 5 stars Average Action RPG, December 13, 2008
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: The Chosen (Video Game)
This is a very average action role playing game. It's a budget game, so you get what you would expect. Recommended for only those who enjoy action role playing games or budget games.

The Good:

Enjoyable first play through
A few new features added not seen before in an action rpg
Lots of monsters to kill(a requirement for action rpg's)

The Bad:

Music and voice acting are not good at all
Too many boxes and barrels to smash
Can choose between 3 different characters to play, but the only thing you can customize at character start-up is their name
Can't find much re-playability, characters are a bit too similar for a veteran
Skill tree is somewhat limited
Too many bloody boxes

The levels are very linear in the game. You have to go from point A to point B, killing any monsters in your way. You collect gold along the way, gain experience from monster kills and perhaps find an NPC who will join you in combat for a short while. These NPC's that join you are namelss, faceless, non-talkative people who will either die or leave you in a short time. When you level up, you get points to add into your chosen stats, just like every other action rpg. This is all there is to the game. There are no puzzles in the game, story and conversation are very limited to being non-existent. Yes, all you do in this one is fight, fight, fight, and then, fight some more. This is just like other action rpg's, it manages to be better than the worst of them, but does not compete with the best.

One major problem I had with this game was the amount of boxes you have to smash. I had trouble earning gold in the game, so smashing boxes to find gold was almost a necessity. Barrel smashing is commonly seen in action role playing games, but it seems there is way more in this game to smash than any other game I have ever played. I am afraid to play this game through again, for fear of having to smash more barrels and boxes.
