Book Description

Two boys. Separated by time. Divided by blood. Connected by a dark stone.

The magic of the black stones was just a tale that was told. Two stones that hold powers so remarkable that only one being can manipulate and master them. But a tale is just a tale, until…

For George Jackett every day is a day to be endured. Pushed around at school and lonely at home, his only escape is to read books and listen to music. When George is given an unusual black stone from a stranger his ordinary life takes a twist and suddenly becomes much more than ordinary. First the dreams begin, becoming more and more vivid until they are disturbingly real. And when an attractive new girl at school strikes up an unlikely friendship with George, the adventure really begins. But the adventure turns terrifying as George desperately tries to make sense of his links to an ancient past and his seemingly newfound talents for all things connected with a medieval time. Something extraordinary is pulling George back to a time long before his own, ordinary life.

This is a beautiful book to read. The story got my attention right from the beginning and the pace of the plot compelled me to keep reading it until I'd finished it. Imaginative & colourful.
That feeling of being different comes through & is easy to relate to.
Well done, Don't miss this book. Can't wait for the next book.Liz Sims

5.0 out of 5 stars "A Young Adult Novel of Magic, Mystery, and Thrills" November 30, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is one exciting novel that will keep teens reading into the late night under the covers with a flashlight. It is fantastically written and is very spellbinding. It's the story of four teens, two boys and two girls, who have self-appointed themselves to solve a mystery hundreds of years old. But first, meet George Jackett, 14 years old, who is bored with school, has no friends as he's a transplant to a British school from Auckland, New Zealand. One day, as the school bus drops him off on his way home, a shadowy figure appears to be following him. George stops, turns, and a large darkly dressed man drops something in his hand ... a black carved stone pendant. The man says, "This belongs to you." He had no idea what to think of it, but he promptly put it around his neck and hid it under his shirt. George is constantly badgered by William and Thomas. While students are waiting for the school bus to take them on a field trip to the ancient Black Rock Castle, William trips him and George falls to the ground. Surprisingly, a girl he's never seen before helps him up ... Arabella, a new student who even will sit with him on the bus. Entering the castle area, just opened to tourism, George has a strange feeling of belonging, that he'd been here before. This story progresses along with two more students, another loner boy, Terrance, and Claire, one of the most popular girls at school who wonders why she is liking George and Terrance ... who are probably the lest popular of boys. This is an exciting adventure story which takes you back in time to a King's son who also has a similar black pendant. His life is threatened, and only George can save him and the black stone pendant. Read more ›

4.0 out of 5 stars Choose This Book for Your Next Read November 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a great story that I finished in just a few days. The loneliness of the main character and the feeling of not fitting in is something that lots of teens will relate to. As his adventures unfolded I came to really like him and his friends and was hooked by the magical and creepy happenings. I'm telling other people to read this book and will look out for more stories by Toni van Rijen.
