5.0 out of 5 stars Cain's Best!, August 20, 2001
By
This review is from: Chris Cain Live at the Rep (Audio CD)
I initially purchased this CD to have a basis of comparison between this and the outstanding "Cain Does King". As I indicated in reviewing the "King: disc, Cain's vocals and his guitar sound and tone are remarkably similar to a younger B.B.King.

The impetus for this CD was the play "Thunder Knocking On The Door: A Blusical Tale of Rythym and Blues" by Keith Glover, for which Cain composed the music and the lyrics. A short time after the end of the production, Cain returned to the Rep for a live recording featuring selected songs from the "Thunder Knocking on the Door" score.

This is an exceptional CD of mostly original recordings and the covers of Willie Dixon's "Help Me", the copyright controlled ""Me and My Baby" and Earl Cage Jr.'s "My Nest Is Still Warm". After listening to this, one can't help but ask for more. Best track, "Drinking Straight Tequila".

Chris Cain is a rare jewel. His live performances even surpass this terrific CD. Saw and heard him for the first time at the King Biscuit Blues Festival 2000. I became an instant fan, and immediately purchased "Live at the Rep", which did not disappoint. Definitely worthy of wider recognition, Chris Cain is an artist worth listening to again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Drinking straight tequila, February 26, 2000

Some of us remember the experience some of us don't, but Chris Cain helps us relive the moment or urge that got us there... He has a deep rich voice - wonderful for blues - great guitar and amazing energy. Don't pass up an opportunity to see him live. A blues experience to be remembered no hangover involved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent The Real Chris Cain, December 26, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Chris Cain Live at the Rep (Audio CD)
If someone has not heard of Chris Cain live, then this is your chance. Chris's other studio sound tracks do not hold a candle to "Live at the Rep." The live renditions are long and excellent with great feeling. Something that is lost in Chris's other studio sound tracks. Live at the Rep was a benefit concert, for the new San Jose Repatory Theatre. Chris felt that he needed to give something back to staff and members at the San Jose Rep. Chris Cain performed the music of Thunder Knocking at Your Door at The Rep. This CD is a combination of Chris's other CDs and music from Thunder Knocking. Chris performed approximately 2 1/2 hours, and probably would have gone on longer if it was not for a fire alarm that went off. Everyone at the Rep thought the alarm was part of the gig. At least I did, until I saw the ushers escorting people out of the theater and Chris Cain and his band's power was cut-off. Concert Over !!!! Excellent

This review is from: Chris Cain Live at the Rep (Audio CD)
THIS MAN PLAYS AND WRITES THE BLUES. PERIOD. I SAW HIM AT BLUESVILLE IN OAKLAND,CA., AND IT WAS NON-STOP SMOKIN BLUES. HE PLAYS BIG, SOFT, HARD, LYRICAL AND IF YOU ARE READY HE WILL TAKE YOU THERE, LIKE ALBERT, B.B., BOBBY BLAND, HE HAS THAT EXTRA INGREDIENT, THAT INTANGIBLE HEALING QUALITY WHICH WE CALL THE BLUES.
