5.0 out of 5 stars Great way to remember Chris LeDoux . . .
It's a great irony that Chris LeDoux had a comeback after being "rediscovered" by Garth Brooks, since Chris was at least as much country and certainly more cowboy than Garth has ever been. And this great collection of songs proves it.

If you want a good CD that shows off the rock side of rodeo vocalist Chris to good advantage, this one's for you. My wife likes it very much, especially the duet with Garth Brooks on "Watcha Gonna Do With A Cowboy?" I always liked the quality of Mr. LeDoux's voice, and his rodeo songs. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great way to remember Chris LeDoux . . ., May 1, 2005
This review is from: Chris Ledoux - 20 Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
It's a great irony that Chris LeDoux had a comeback after being "rediscovered" by Garth Brooks, since Chris was at least as much country and certainly more cowboy than Garth has ever been. And this great collection of songs proves it.

Chris LeDoux created a kind of country rock that was more Wyoming than California, and as a champion bronc rider in the 70s, he carved out a reputation with down-to-earth credentials more dust and sweat and grit than his contemporaries. The "greatest hits" that make up this CD are not chart toppers; many were not even released as singles. They're drawn from a career of 30+ albums, some written by himself, many by others. All with his indelible stamp as a cowboy rocker-troubadour.

There's plenty of high energy in all these songs, kicking off with the wonderful anthem "Life is a Highway." Following is a whole range of sentiments from the darkly angry and deep-hearted "This Cowboy's Hat" to the snoose-in-cheek "Copenhagen" to the unembarrassed love songs like "Look at You Girl" and "County Fair." Meanwhile, he heartily celebrates the wonders of sexual energy in "Gravitational Pull" and "For Your Love."

There's a great Springsteen song "Tougher Than the Rest" that he makes all cowboy, and flipping the coin on the wrangler and boots icon, he turns around and sings a larky "Whatcha Gonna Do With a Cowboy." For all the bar songs in country music, his "Five Dollar Fine (for Whining)" has got to be one of the best. There's a rodeo song, "Hooked on an 8 Second Ride," a tribute to rock and roll, "Even Cowboys Like a Little Rock and Roll," and a compelling story-song about cowboying on the open range, "Stampede." Finally he sings a declaration of independence from Nashville in "Western Skies." To double the fun, there are duets with Garth, Bon Jovi, Toby Keith, and Charlie Daniels.

You could pick another 20 songs to remember Chris LeDoux, but this collection will do just fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars 20 great hits, but where the hell is Bareback Jack?, July 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Chris Ledoux - 20 Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This is my first Chris Ledoux, but I was familiar with several of his songs, such as Bareback Jack and Wild and Wooly. Where in hell are these two? Otherwise, a great CD for cleaning up or in the car. Another thing: I haven't got tired of this CD since Chris has several different styles on here. THIS CD RULES!

5.0 out of 5 stars Chris Ledoux Rocks!, May 17, 2004

If I could only have one Chris Ledoux album, this would be the one I'd choose. This cowboy knows how to rock and roll, yet he can still sing western music with the best of them. I've had this CD in my player for 2 weeks and can't make myself take it out! This ain't your momma's country music, and if you think all country music sounds alike then you haven't heard Chris Ledoux. There are a few songs I wish were on this CD, such as "You Can't See Him From The Road", but there's not a bad song on it. This is truly great music from a real cowboy who's been there and done that, and has the belt buckles to prove it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this man!!, July 10, 2003
This review is from: Chris Ledoux - 20 Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I have been a big fan of Chris Ledoux for years. I first heard him several years ago when I was about 13 years old, and I was hopelessly in love with Garth Brooks at the time. When he mentioned somebody named Chris Ledoux, I definatly wanted to check him out. I think he is an amazing person, and this album is great. It is missing several songs, but I certainly do not mind buying this cd and a different one with all the missing songs to complete the collection. I hope everybody enjoys this cd as much as I did!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Greatest Hits Album, November 27, 1999

It's a shame that Chris LeDoux doesn't get more airplay as he has a lot of talent to offer. This album contains mostly songs from the 90's but Chris has been around a lot longer. It's nice that this album came out which pretty much proves what us old fans knew all along- Chris could sing a phone book! Buy this great album.

Although I only owned a few of his albums during his lifetime, my favorite remains "Old Cowboy Classics" which I dearly wish had 20 traditional-style ballads on it instead of ten. I was disappointed a few years ago when I searched Chris's entire discography, hoping he had recorded a version of the best rodeo song I ever heard, one penned by '60's folkie Peter LaFarge. The title is "Don't Tell Me How I Looked Fallin' (Tell Me How I Looked ON)" and it would have been a natural for LeDoux. Alas, I guess he never came across it in his career. (The LaFarge version was on an LP titled "Women Blues" on Verve/Forecast and has not been put out on CD.)Well, this compilation is more uptempo honky-tonk than old-fashioned cowboy, and Chris fans who don't own it already ought to buy it. He was an interesting artist and man, who deserves to be remembered and whose performances are still rewarding to hear.

5.0 out of 5 stars God Bless Chris LeDoux, August 2, 2000
This review is from: Chris Ledoux - 20 Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I had not heard much about Chris until I saw him at a festival one year. Ever since I have been a devoted fan. This is definitely one of the best compilation CDs I've heard in a long time. It's got great oldies and the best new stuff he's done. It's been in my CD player for over a month, I just can't get enough of it!!! If you love Chris LeDoux, or even just moderately like him, this is definitely a purchase for you!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This deserves a million stars!, February 7, 2000

I bought this CD for Christmas for my husband, but I think I listen to it more than he does! This is just the *best* Chris LeDoux CD I've heard, except for seeing him at the fair one time, he puts on a great show, too! I would strongly recommend this to any lover of country music, it has a little old fashioned music and lots of good new stuff, too.

I had never heard of Chris, untill my friend talked me in to buying this album, just to see if I liked his music. It was so good I went out the next day to buy his Live album. When I have to drive this is usually what you'ld hear blasting from my radio. Some of the best crusin' music to listen to. It is a pretty upbeat album that every country music listener would greatly enjoy.

Whenever I need to drive down the highways of Wyoming - this is the music I put on. Listening to this CD while driving down those long open roads - it brings the life you value and love to mind, Bang a Drum, Western Skies, these songs are the truth of life here! Chris' sincere rich voice just brings it all home! Yes, we need some new - just can't wait for it.
