Heartfelt Spiritual Beauty,
By
This review is from: Christ Is My Hope (Audio CD)
The Innocence Mission continue their string of remarkable releases with CHRIST IS MY HOPE, a collection of spiritual songs with heartfelt vocals and simple (simply beautiful) music. Personal favorites are covers of "500 Miles" and "Fare Thee Well." These two selections alone are worth the price of the disc (and, as stated, all profits go to very worthy causes). That this band is God-inspired shows in every note.

Another short vacation,

Everytime I listen to an Innocence Mission CD I am taken to a place where simple pleasures reside. Perhaps to a farm or a serene nature setting. This time I'm taken to place closer to the side of God. Karen's voice is very unique and has a certain beautiful innocence to it. The spiritual songs of "Christ" are very pure and celestial arrangements. A stress antidote for sure. If you like "Birds of the Neighborhood" and appreciate hymns, this is a must have

A pretty simple affair,

As one might expect, this album is not a big production. It is simply about 23 minutes of sparsely instrumented arrangements of hymns. Karen Peris' vocals are prominent in the mix, with sometimes some quiet guitar, piano, or string bass in the background. For those of us who love her quavery childlike voice, it is much easier to make out in these arrangements. In particular, the rolled R's which I have only started noticing with "Birds of my neighborhood" are distractingly obvious in this recording.About half of the hymns are limited to a single verse, for example "It is well with my soul". I am glad to say the beautiful harmony of that song is preserved in this arrangement. I would have enjoyed hearing more of the harmonies in the other hymns. One of the things I like best about "The Lakes of Canada" from "Birds of my neighborhood" is the overdubbed harmony -- hearing that beautiful voice in harmony with itself is a real pleasure.

This Gentle Disc Moved Me - Random Thoughts,

Please note, Karen's voice has never sounded better, (500 Miles is my present favorite). Qualities to cherish on CIMH: A) Karen's Emotion Reaches Us - powerfully. B) IM's Authenticity Reaches Us As Well. C) Love & Grace Are Timeless Themes. Minor Items to critique: A) I Wanted A Longer Album. B) IMHO, Selections Should Have Been Added (ie, "And Can It Be"). C) How About Including An Interview With the IM (had the space for one?) I love the album "Christ Is My Hope." It serves up a helping, or two, of hope & Grace. ::::::: Listen & Enjoy :::::::

Subtle and Smooth,
By
This review is from: Christ Is My Hope (Audio CD)
I have been a long time fan of Innocence Mission. Karen Peris's voice is illuminating, lilting and beatutiful. On this collection of spiritual hymns and songs, she uses her voice to create a mood which not many other singers can match. She crafts a song with subtlety. My only complaint is that it isn't long enough! Buy this CD!

Beautiful,

This is post modern liturgical music at its best, with an Innocence Mission twist. The band lives up to its expectations, Peris's wavering, childlike vocals giving the music an appropriately otherworldly feel. Highly recommended, buy a copy for each of your friends!

This CD is fantastic! The songs are beautiful and serene. Also, the profits to this CD go to charity. If you are wondering about their mission or music, visit their website because it's so artistic and beautiful.
