The Harmony of the Old and New Testament Revealed . . .,

This review is from: Christ in the Passover: Why is This Night Different? (Paperback)
I found this book to be a facinating study on how Jesus of Nazareth fulfilled all of the prophesies of the Old Testament. After spending the high holidays with my Jewish family and reading this book, I saw the truth of Jesus as the awaited Messiah revealed in the tradition of the Passover. This is a must read for any Jew searching for the Truth.

Excellent Historical Introduction for Christians,
By
This review is from: Christ in the Passover: Why is This Night Different? (Paperback)
Christianity started as a Jewish movement. Jesus and all 12 of his disciples were Jews. The central historic act of Christian worship, the Eucharist (or communion or Lord's Supper), was instituted during a Passover meal. Jesus, himself, tied his death to this meal. The New Testament ties Jesus' life, death, and resurrection to fulfillment of Hebrew Scriptures. As more and more Christians search for their historic roots, books of this nature will continue to grow in popularity.
This book does an excellent job of describing what early Christians and the rest of Christianity has accepted, "That Jesus is the Lamb of God, slain for the sins of the world." This book will strike an emotional chord in any Christian who reads it. That being said, it is unlikely that most Jews will see the connections as strongly as Christians. This is a great book for Christians and possibly an interesting book for Jews. But Christians should not be surprized if Jews react with anger at one of their most important holy days being "hijacked" by another religion. How would Christians react if Muslims presumed to explain to them the true meaning of Christmas?

This is the best book I ever read on the Christian meaning of the Passover. The "Last Supper" was a Passover Seder and until this book I never knew the fullness of what Jesus was saying. What an eye opener!!!

Unfortunately, the Old Testament often gets the short end of the stick these days. All too often it is largely or completely ignored. Christians see it as too difficult, irrelevant, or legalistic, and pastors often see it as an embarrassment or too politically incorrect.
Without understanding the Old Testament, you will never really understand God. (Yes, I really do mean that - understanding the Old Testament is not optional for the Christian). Furthermore, trying to understand the New Testament without understanding the Old Testament is trying to understand the ocean without knowing the first thing about fish. This book explores one of the many connections between the Old and New Testaments. People will usually be familiar with the connection between, say, Isaiah 53 and Jesus, but this book shows that that is not the only kind of connection. The Passover is filled with symbolism that points to Jesus. It's really a shame that so few Christians seem to be familiar with this, because I think that people would find it very beneficial to understand it. Without understanding the Passover, one cannot truly understand communion, the Last Supper, or a host of other New Testament passages and institutions. It will greatly enhance your understanding of Jesus (and how the Old Testament points to Him), the Passover, and a lot of the Old Testament too. This book gives a very good overview of the Passover, the ceremony, its connection with Jesus, and many other important topics. It covers all the basics and is fairly well written. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to understand the issues I've mentioned better.

I found this book to be both informative and inspirational. In addition, it was an extremely easy read. It does a great job of explaining the history of the Jewish people from a theological perspective, as it relates to the important role that they play in God's plan of salvation for all of mankind. If you are Jewish, you difinitely want to buy this book. If you are a Gentile Christian, it gives you a great introduction to the Jewish roots of your faith. I highly recommend it.

Interesting book for Christians,

This review is from: Christ in the Passover (Paperback)
"Christ in the Passover" is a Christ-focused, Biblical view of the Passover celebration. Using the Bible as their main source, the authors explained why Israel was chosen by God, the history leading up to the Passover, and the original commands from God on how to celebrate the Passover. They pointed out the parts of this celebration that we now know symbolize the death of Jesus the Messiah for our sins.
Then they commented on how the Passover was celebrated up until Jesus' time, the sights and sounds of Jerusalem during the Passover in Jesus time, what the Passover meal was like during Jesus' time, and what the modern Passover is like and why it's different. In all these cases, they pointed out the parts of the Passover meal that point to Christ. They also described when during the "Last Supper" Passover meal that he added the parts that have become the Christian communion celebration. While I've heard much of this information before, this book had some new (to me) details, like the description of the larger scene of the celebration and several bits of the symbolism in the Passover meal.

An interesting guide but not one that's honest. It does not reflect either the meaning of the Seder in Jesus' time or of the Passover seder as practiced today. For the Christian who wants a direct, more authentic description of what the service/meal contains and symbolizes, other books strike closer to the bone. One reviewer here directs people to a good translation of the basic pamphlet used at every Seder today. Personally, I look forward to reviewing the forthcoming "Jewish Annotated New Testament" from Oxford University Press.

"For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed." 1 Corinthians 5:7Not a new idea for the church, however well presented here. I learn a great deal about the foretelling of Christ in the Passover.

I enjoyed this book, but it was not as detail as I would have liked. The portion on Pesach during the 2nd temple period was facinating.

As a Messianic Jew, Rosen does a great job of explaining Passover to me, a non-Jew. It was explained in terms I could understand. From a Christian point of view, it was very helpful in helping me understand Passover and it's obvious link to the Savior.
