3.0 out of 5 stars Pat Robertson and His Friends Redux, November 5, 2008
This review is from: The Christian Conservative Coloring Book (Paperback)
THE CHRISTIAN CONSERVATIVE COLORING BOOK by Kevin Stone is the third is a series published by Garrett County Press noted for its sometimes edgy and always unique publications. The formula is that the artist takes stupid comments, gives the source of the material, and then illustrates the quotation. The subject of the first book was George Bush; the second in the series highlighted Pat Robertson and his friends. Herein lies the problem. While I do not have that book in front on me, at least eight and perhaps ten of the twenty-two illustrations included here have already been published in the prior Robertson book so over a third of this material is recycled. There really is no excuse on the part of the artist for using this old material. Certainly the people included here-- Stone adds Sean Hannity, Louisiana Senator David Vitter, Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Daniel Henninger, Bill O'Reilly, James Dobson and Sarah Palin to the warmed-over Robertson-- make outrageous comments on a daily basis so there surely is no dearth of material had the artist been so inclined to look for it. Sarah Palin, for instance, is running over with quotable silly comments, as Tina Fey of "Saturday Night Live" has proven so wonderfully. The only quotation used and illustrated by Stone in this book is Palin's "I think God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that." Mackie Blanton's essay from the previous Robertson book is reprinted as well.

If you are not familiar with the previous Robertson spoof, you will find this book very funny. For the rest of us, it is a real disappointment.

Drawings weren't the best by any means. I actually didn't find it too funny, as I had expected. Also the overall quality of the book is fairly cheap.
