5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview of major ethics issues in counseling, February 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Christian Counseling Ethics: A Handbook for Therapists, Pastors & Counselors (Paperback)
Dr. Sanders and contributing authors give a realistic picture of the ethical issues that face Christian and secular counselors. The issues are well illustrated by examples and evaluation of the right or wrong responses. Not just a book for professionals, strong chapters are devoted to pastoral and lay counseling. Appendices feature Codes of Ethics from major associations in counseling and psychology. This is a fine addition to any professional's library, a must-read for counseling students, and a great gift for a pastor or church counseling ministry director. I'm using this as a primary text for my graduate students in Ethics and Law for Christian Counselors. Thank you, Dr. Sanders, well done! Dr. Kathie Erwin

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Introduction, July 4, 2006

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Christian Counseling Ethics: A Handbook for Therapists, Pastors & Counselors (Paperback)
As the title implies, "Christian Counseling Ethics" offers an exellent overview of legal, moral, ethical, and Christian behavior in the counseling relationship. Edited by R. K. Sanders and written by a team of leading practitioners and professors, this handbook serves well counselors, pastors, and lay helpers. An updated edition would be welcomed, as this first edition is now edging past a decade old. In that edition, issues could be further explored regarding "dual relationships" especially with the growth in the past decade of spiritual direction, spiritual friendship, and pastoral care all overlapping increasingly with "modern counseling."

Reviewer: Bob Kellemen, Ph.D., is the author of "Beyond the Suffering: Embracing the Legacy of African American Soul Care and Spiritual Direction," "Soul Physicians," "Spiritual Friends," and the forthcoming "Sacred Friendships: Listening to the Voices of Women Soul Care-Givers and Spiritual Directors."
