This review is from: The Christian Counselor's Medical Desk Reference (Hardcover)
Pastors are not (usually) physicians. That being said, it is helpful to have a general idea of the symptoms and progression of common conditions (especially those considered psychiatric).Dr. Bob, a physician and nouthetic counselor for over 30 years, is still teaching excellent courses on counseling, especially dealing with medical issues and uncommon situations. The biggest help in this book is the suggestions he gives for counseling someone who is facing these problems. This is not a diagnostic tool (as a diagnosis should only be done by trained medical personnel, not pastors/counselors), but a tool to help the counselee deal with the situation and increase the understanding of the condition for the counselor. |
