Love everything about Christian!,

This review is from: Christian the Lion (Hardcover)
As an adult educator, I was eager to read this book to my kids. I found I enjoyed it as much as the adult books about Christian. The pictures are wonderful and it is extremely well written. It appealed to my 3, 5 and 8 year old readers.

What a great book. I have read other books on the two great guys who gave him his freedom. Everytime I see the clip on the guys reunited with Christian, I cry.

Who hasnt watched the Youtube video of the giant lion running up to the two friends he loved, and who loved him?
Christian is the famous lion, who, after a year, and later after two years in the wild, remembered his pals and greeted them with love. It's a beautiful story, that will remain popular for a very long time to come. And a true story. This is a great book, and even though it is written mainly for the enjoyment of kids mostly, all you have to be is a kid at heart, to enjoy this book. It has great photos of Christian and his pals, and is a must have for anyone who has been touched by "The Reunion" of these beautiful souls...one, four legged, two, two legged. I am a proud owner of this book. Call me a kid. Go ahead. I dont care. I am comfortable enough in my manhood to admit that I have a special place in my heart for Animals. I love this book and recommend it to everybody, regardless of age. It's more of a picture book (A Christian photo album really) than a storybook, but you will still learn enough about Christian and his pals from reading this book. Buy it. You wont be sorry.

Bourke, Anthony (Ace) and John Rendall. Christian the Lion. Henry Holt and Company.
This delightful picture book documents a young lion cub's life first in London, England and then in Kenya where he is gradually trained to hunt for himself so he can be safely returned to life in the wild. Two young men rescue Christian from Harrod's Department Store where he was part of a window display and bring him home to live with them above their furniture store. However, when Christian grows too large to be a pet, they arrange for him to be returned to the wild by George Adamson, who along with his wife Joy raised Elsa the lioness. Brief snippets of text accompany many endearing photographs: Christian riding in a sports car with his two friends, pulling clothes out of a drawer, looking at some baby chicks, and playing ball. There is a postscript about a visit that the two men make to see Christian a year later; he still recognizes them. Originally published as a 96 page book in UK in 1972, A YouTube clip brought this story back to the attention of a world wide audience, and now a movie is being made.

Glaring Error!!,

I work in a public library in Atlanta and we just received this book to add to our collection. It seemed cute, until I saw this sentence:
"Lions usually lived in the wild in a coutry called Africa." I am appalled that this mistake could have been overlooked by editors. It seems outrageous for the book to have been published in 2009 with this sort of error. I will write the publisher, Henry Holt, because I am just dismayed by this.

How could the editors miss the fact that this book calls Africa a country? Despicable. I've written to the publisher to ask that they send us a new free copy with the mistake fixed. All of the people involved with this publication should be ashamed. If it was an accident, then it's just sloppy and they should have known better. But was it an accident? I wont' read it to my 5-year-old again.
