"What I find attractive about this book is that it lends itself easily to the interdisciplinary research, because of its historical survey character." Michael J. Cahill, Duquesne University
"I believe what makes The Christian Theological Tradition a better text is the way that it was developed ...by a collaborative effort of experts who are practitioners in the classroom, and with feedback from students. The text thereby achieves both expansiveness and depth that others do not have and, perhaps most important, it is student-friendly." Joseph A. Currie, Fordham University
This excellent introduction to theology, written by a group of scholars at the University of St. Thomas (Minnesota), helps students acquire a basic theological literacy in key persons and events of the Bible and the Christian faith, and in Christianity's encounter with culture at large;. Historically arranged, it also addresses five major themes of systematic theology: revelation, God, creation, Jesus, and church. It is accessible to students with limited knowledge of the Christian theological tradition and is an ideal background text to prepare students for further study of theology.

A wealth of information from a critical but appreciative perspective,
By Books are my life (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Christian Theological Tradition, The (2nd Edition) (Paperback)
First, the other reviewer decided to pan the book based on the book using the terms BCE/CE rather than BC/AD in order to be more accessible in places to readers who are not Christian. Let that narrow-mindedness speak for the review. The book is a veritable wealth of information on Scripture and Christian history from a decidedly Catholic perspective. Each chapter is written by a national scholar in the field, with an eye to material being useful for entry level college students. Many of the chapters are engaging, replete with maps and art, and all are information rich. Anyone wanting a good introduction to the story of the God's interaction with the world from a Catholic Christian perspective will appreciate this book. I've taught with it many times and it has always been well-appreciated.

Not my favorite textbook to ever read as it is a bit dull, however very useful for the class I took.
