We were lucky to find this book...,

My husband and I were married last year. His family is Jewish and mine is Methodist. We were having a hard time finding a ceremony that would honor both cultures without having either (a) no mention of Christ or (b) "Christ" uttered every third word. Our minister recommended this book.
We were a little leery, as the title is "Christian Weddings," but it was an excellent resource for us. It gives you many different versions of each section of the ceremony (i.e. exchanging of rings, vows, greeting, etc). Assuming your minister will work with you, you can put a ceremony together by picking and choosing what you like. We were able to do that--and our ceremony was beautiful. Most important, we were both very comfortable with it.

Not quite as advertised...,

The book itself is great, and provides good ideas for putting together a wedding ceremony.
The enclosed CD, however, falls short of what is implied in the description. It contains only Appendices A, B, and C (which means you have some useful documents), but it DOES NOT CONTAIN any of the actual text you would assemble into a wedding liturgy - that part, you must type in yourself. That is a significant disappointment, and - since you probably already have questionnaires for people to fill out, and probably a standard bulletin, the CD won't help much. On the other hand, if you are starting from scratch, maybe this is for you. Either way, even the text on the back of the book seems to suggest that the CD-ROM will help you assemble the service. I supposed that is true, but not quite in the way you might expect. I think that Abingdon needs to clarify that in future printings.

The book is a collection of prayers, vows and communion liturgy from churches and denominations around the world. I have used this book in ministry when I performed a wedding with a Methodist colleague. The new copy I recently ordered comes with a cd. The book can be helpful when you marry couples who come from different protestant denominations or for couples who like fresh and unusual prayers. It is a good addition to your wedding liturgy library.

This is a resource that I have used for years and have found it to be invaluable in working with couples as they prepare for the Wedding Ceremony and Marriage. I highly recommend it.
