I read this book six years ago during a difficult time in my life. Through a dilligent study and a steady application of the principles in this book, my life was radically changed. The scripturally based teaching on the problems for which deliverance is helpful, and the emphasis on the fact that most Christains can indeed obtain self-deliverance over a period of time was the key for me. I keep a copy of this book in my home at all times, and have given copies to others who are facing struggles calling for deliverance in their own lives.

At first I was not impressed by this book. The writing style seemed rambling to me. I wanted the authors to get to the point and tell me how to kick demon butt. They did finally do that in very practical, step-by-step ways.

I have read at least a dozen books and maybe as many websites on the topic of deliverance and have bought at least 25 tapes on the subject. Too bad I got this book last not first! The others were valuable, but to me this one was the best because it most fully helped me realize that deliverance isn't a quick fix. It takes time (and I'm talking about self-deliverance most especially) but is sooo worth the effort!

Moses told the Israelites that "little by little" they would drive out the -ites (Canaanites, Amorites, etc. etc.), their enemies, from the Promised Land. That is how it is for us, too, in regard to our UNseen enemies, most commonly.

I just picked up a copy of "Christian Set Yourself Free" last weekend, but by applying what I'm learning my life has started to change.

Graham Powell is a great teacher, both in his oral and written communication!

I was desperate for 'deliverance'. going here, going there, getting nothing out of it. Only feeling more and more humiliated and like a 'hopeless case'. Then I read, or rather studied thoroughly, this book in two days. I immediately started to feel lighter. The writer has gone through the same desperation, but over many, many more years than I, and in immensely larger intensity. He's been there, and had done everything he could (he thought). Read this book and waste no more time searching fruitlessly.

Among a lot of other things, I learned that one would be an exceptional case NOT to need deliverance! And also that deliverance is not a one time experience; the Lord wants us to become warriors, so we need to learn how to fight (in a war that is ongoing).

I want to note that although the book is about setting yourself free, the writer himself has received more than one 'deliverance session' from others and, while writing the book, was busy counseling to others as a deliverance minister. So getting help from others is still an option, but it would be wise to read this book first.

I would also strongly recommend The Normal Christian Life by Watchman Nee. It probably would have taken me years to 'get' what Nee writes in this book. It might be all in the Bible, but a good teacher surely helps to really 'get it'.

The Lord is training His church to be wise and strong in His wisdom and strength, and not in our own, so that the church can not only take back territory from the enemy (our own minds and bodies),but hold and defend it in purity and holiness in the Lord. Early on in my discipleship the Lord encouraged me to enter into spiritual warfare ,in proportion to my understanding, and was most gracious, patient and forgiving with all my stumbling around and exploring. He placed within my heart a zeal and enthusiasm to understand spiritual things and a desire to be free of demonic bondages and torments and He instructed me in how to exercise my faith to bind and command demons to leave and He led me to read some helpful and insightful books on the subject, especially 'Christian Set Yourself Free', which opened up a whole new depth of understanding. This a important book in the history of our understanding of deliverance ministry and especially of self deliverance ministry.

This is an excellent, eye-opening book that every Christian should read in order to be able to recognize the enemy's ploys in their life and learn how to be free of him.
