Book Description

July 18, 2003
Few people can deny the vast gap that exists between the historical character of Jesus of Nazareth and the Messiah of Pauline Christianity. Farouq Zein explors the results of modern Biblical criticism through Islam’s perspective and advances the view that Islam, while denying the mythical Christ of Pauline persuasion, had been more than 12 centuries ahead of Biblical scholars in proclaiming the truth about the historical Jesus. The book further contends that the remarkable agreement arising from Qur’anic revelation and many modern Biblical findings can serve as a useful platform for further understanding, co-operation, and fruitful dialogue between Christians and Muslims.

Editorial Reviews

Review

'In an age of extremism, this perceptive treatment of a complex and sensitive subject should be welcomed.' Fuad Sha'ban, Professor of English Literature, University of Petra, Amman

This review is from: Christianity, Islam and Orientalism (Hardcover)
THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ FOR EVERY ONE, CHRISTIAN, JEW AND MUSLEM ALIKE. I COMMEND AMAZON.COM FOR PUTTING IT ON ITS LIST OF RECOMMENDED BOOKS. I ALSO COMMEND THE AUTHOR WHO OBVIOUSLY HAD GONE TO GREAT LENGTH OF RESEARCH IN HIS ATTEMPT TO AMASS NECESSARY INFORMATION FROM RELAIABLE RESOURCES.

THERE ARE SO MANY FACTS IN THE BOOK THAT I WAS NOT AWARE OF, ESPECIALLY HOW THE QUR'AN TACKLES THE INTRICATE ISSUE OF JESUS AND HIS MESSAGE. IT WAS ALSO VERY INTERESTING FOR ME TO LEARN HOW THE TRUE IDENTITY OF JESUS IS BECOMING MORE AND MORE THE SUBJECT OF REVIEW AND CONSIDERATION BY MANY CHRISTIANS, ESPECIALLY IN THE STATES.

THERE WILL OF COURSE BE READERS WHO DO NOT CONCUR WITH ALL MR. ZEIN'S VIEWS AND FINDINGS DUE TO THEIR DEEPLY ENTRENCHED BELIEFS OTHERWISE, BUT I DO HOPE THAT WILL NOT BIAS THEM TO TURN A COLD SHOULDER ON TO A GREAT PIECE OF WORK AND THAT THEY WILL BE OPEN MINDED ENOUGH IN JUDGING IT FOR WHAT IT MERITS..

FINALLY, I WISH THAT AMAZON.COM REDUCES THE PRICE OF THIS BOOK IN ORDER TO MAKE IT ACCESSIBLE TO AS MANY READERS AS POSSIBLE. (I HAVE SEEN THIS BOOK ON SOME BOOK STALLS ELSWHERE FOR AS LITTLE AS $10).
