5.0 out of 5 stars It's for christians
I'm a little confussed by some of the other reviews. Christianity is Jewish is not an attempt to convert Jews, it's an attempt for Christians to embrace the Jewishness of their faith. To understand the fullness of Christianity, and see it as the diciples saw it, one needs to see it through the eyes of the Jews. She successfully attempts to show how the Jew Jesus...

3.0 out of 5 stars The Worldview Spoils Her Good Intentions
I am familiar with Schaeffer from earlier knowledge of the L'Abri movement founded by her husband Francis. I don't think I had ever read any of her writings before, but had read about L'Abri and seen references in other writers. I have read one other book of hers, in Spanish, a simplistic ethical interpretation of the "Ten Commandments."

In this book...

She successfully attempts to show how the Jew Jesus fufilled the Jewish scriptures. This is a book for Christians to understand their faith, not to attack our beloved older brothers, the Jews.

5.0 out of 5 stars Christianity Is Jewish, April 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Christianity Is Jewish (Paperback)
Christianity Is Jewish, lovingly and gently presents the salvation message of Jesus Christ, the long awaited, Jewish Messiah in a logical and deductive fashion. It brings the thread of Redemption from the promise of the Messiah in Genesis, through the fulfillment of the prophecies of the Jewish prophets. It clearly shows Christianity as a grafted vine rooted in Judaism. We are the logical fulfillment of Judaism, not a new invention of man's thoughts. Edith Schaeffer is never harsh or confrontational and her book is an easy and enjoyable read. Over the years, I never can keep a copy of my own because I keep giving them away or lending them out.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gem! great overview of Bible in conversational style, March 13, 2005
By
This review is from: Christianity Is Jewish (Paperback)
A great overview of the entire Old and New Testament, touching on most important books/topics and how it all points to the sacrificial Lamb, Jesus! It as if she is talking to you in her living room, which is actually her gifting along with her famous husband Francis Shaeffer (you may have heard of L'Abri in Switzerland).. Emphasizes the Jewish roots of Christianity. Highly recommended!

Although I found the early chapters a little difficult to plow through, the book beautifully ties together the Old and New Testaments. The author knows her material and is anxious to present the "Good News" to all who will hear.As a Christian, I found the juxtaposition with the Jewish elements fascinating and I think the Jews would find her book, at the very least, interesting as she weaves back and forth between the Testaments.

I bought 3 of these books to give to friends and 2 for myself.

This little book is one of my all time favorites, so simple, yet profound. It has given me a better understanding of the New Testament, and also how the Old Testament and the New fit together. I HIGHLY recommend this book!

Wow, I never delved deeply into the Christian - Jewish connection. However, when you read this book, it connects the dots. This should be mandatory reading for ALL pastors of ALL Christian denominations & they should make the book a part of Sunday school or small group studies.

I remember reading this as a new Christian and being thrilled to see how our Christianity is tied to and completes our Jewish heritage. I've loaned out my copy many times until it didn't return again. So I bought another to give to a friend.

This book needs to be reprinted because the message is timeless. Edith Schaefer knows how to keep your attention as she brings part of the Old Testament about Christ alive. Also a great book to give to your Jewish friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Reminder of My Roots, March 7, 2011
This review is from: CHRISTIANITY IS JEWISH (Paperback)
Edith Schaeffer (the wife of L'Abri founder, Francis Schaeffer) presents the Gospel to a Jewish audience in the text of this fascinating work. The writer here lays out what many Christians would do well to recognize as the history of their belief and the root of their Christian religion. The book is an easy read full of biblical stories and accounts. The book is laid out as the story of redemption tailored with a keen eye to the Jewish reader.
