5.0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking, truth testing work of art..., February 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Christianity on the Offense: Responding to the Beliefs and Assumptions of Spiritual Seekers (Paperback)
I felt the author revealed, supported and substantiated his observations of the miriad of different world philosophies and religions. He was very convincing and logical with few presuppostions concerning illogical/incongruent world ideologies.

He makes the case for Christianity in a real sense. He shows the application of truth tests that are objective and do not dissolve under scrutiny.

In short. He remained objective, logical, internally and externally consistant.

This review is from: Christianity on the Offense: Responding to the Beliefs and Assumptions of Spiritual Seekers (Paperback)
It is well said that we ought not to judge a book by its cover, maybe size is a better word here. But the author has done an extremely successful job of putting across the arguments for Christianity as rational, objective, rational, livable, and believable. If nonbelievers are put off by heavy-duty books on Christian evidences, then they will not go wrong in getting hold of this book. But be forewarned, this book will get you upset over what you are believing about your worldviews! I got mine in Australia while on holiday. Can't seem to find it in Singapore though. Anyone has any ideas of bringing in a load of it to Singapore?

1.0 out of 5 stars Battle Language and Sweeping Statements, April 26, 2001

This review is from: Christianity on the Offense: Responding to the Beliefs and Assumptions of Spiritual Seekers (Paperback)
I had difficulty with this book because it seems to me be written from a battle perspective with battle or attacking language. Other religious worldviews are characterized with "babbling false prophets", "self-appointed gurus", and "fanciful philosophical writings" p. 102. Story speaks of how Christians have had to "defend their faith against fradulent religions." p. 103. Eastern religions philosophy has been "infiltrating the United States." p. 104. "a few observations will sound the death knell of both Eastern pantheism and its New Age counterpart." p. 111. "Panthiests may pawn this inane philosophy ..." p. 113. "products of mindless evolution." p. 123 "scientific claims that attempt to thwart the Christian worldview." About the naturalistic world view the author states, "this attitude is narrow-minded, prejudiced and designed to preclude any source of truth that does not pass through naturalism's anti-supernatural grid." p. 133. "Christian worldview is under attack" p. 135. "We have become like mindless lemmings, like stupid rodents following a satanic Pied Piper." p. 152. "It is always open season on Christians." p. 19.

Sweeping statement are made and not backed up to my satisfaction, "There exist universal 'first principles ... which govern how all peole in every culture throughout all of history reason." p. 23. "We have a strength from outside ourselves that helps us endure our sufferings. No other religion in the world offers this." p. 99. "reality as universally understood and lived out" p. 133.

Story assumes that Christians have the same view on issues such as abortion, evolution, homosexuality. Views on these issues are not critical or central to a Christian belief as I understand it. This book seemed to me more a fearful tirade than a thoughtfully reasoned apologetic.
