Product Description
Everyone is using natural products today, yet few books elucidate both sides of the herb-and supplement story. The Christian's Guide to Natural Products & Remedies discusses the many products being used widely today together with the possible benefits and risks of each.

Above and beyond the great practical medical information provided in this book, The Christian's Guide to Natural Products & Remedies is the first thorough Christian treatment of the use of natural products, offering a biblical apologetic.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Christian's Guide to Natural Products & Remedies, July 16, 2007
Like you, when I came across this book, I wondered what a Christian herbal guide and how it differed from any other herbal guide. At the start of this book, one of the authors points out that Christians are often prone to the belief that herbal supplements are natural and therefore unlike prescription drugs are safe. Furthermore, Christians also tend to feel uncomfortable asking their doctor for help with health issues and therefore go to herbal supplements to self medicate.

Personally, I don't believe these issues are unique to Christians. As health care cost rise, hospital wait times become completely outrageous, and a pleasant bed side manner becomes increasingly rare, seeking alternatives to traditional medical care is quite a logical scenario.

Despite my issues with the title, I believe this book to be a valuable resource. I agree with the author that often people take supplements thinking that since they come from plants they can't possibly cause harm. Moreover, many individuals self medicate or mix herbs and prescription medication without ever researching the possible effects of these substances. In doing so, these people may be putting themselves at risk as their condition worsens without proper treatment, may cause new problems due to erroneous use or dosage, and may even cause death. Using fun question and answer surveys, the authors help individuals test their knowledge of herbal supplement and other natural remedies.

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT WHAT EXPECTED, January 3, 2007
By Samantha Walraven (berryville, va) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
My husband bought this for me because I believe in the use of herbs and he thought it would be helpful to have a Christian perspective. I did appreciate the explanation for the Biblical use of pharmeceuticals. However, as far as a guide for herbs goes, it left me much confused. It is strangely setup like a jeapordy game which is not easy reference. It contains a lot of information on a handful of herbs, but it is certainly not informative on all the herbs. The author leaves you with the conclusion that basically most of the herbs have not been tested thoroughly and may not help the way that some people claim. After reading it, I felt like I had probably wasted hundreds of dollars on herbs.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very confusing and non informative!, September 9, 2006
Almost the entire book is written in question and answer format! I heard about this book on Janet Parcel's radio show and it sounds like the Dr. knows what he is talking about, but the book is not user friendly due to the format. I was hoping for some in depth detail about herbs and supplements, but that is not what this book is about. Very disappointed... :-(
