A perfect CD...often referred to as the "Stereo" album..., June 5, 2004
This review is from: Christie Front Drive (Audio CD)
This album truly captures the intriguing dynamic that attracted so many listeners in the late 90's. Christie Front Drive have always made music for themselves and this album is proof that with a little experimentation, true beauty is acheived. Most fans have agreed that the "interludes" between the albums core tracks tend to be a little long and self-serving, but they serve as gateways into the records sonic bliss. "Saturday" the bands opening track hooks you in with it's melodic arrangement and keeps moving towards the records more driving tracks like "Radio" and "About Two Days". This was the final album from this band not including Anthology which is a collection of rare tracks and b-sides not already available. Fans of Mineral, Braid, and Joan of Arc will truly enjoy this record and recognize it's influence still being felt today. Fans of Jimmy Eat World should familiarize themselves with this album due to it's heavy influence on J.E.W.'s second album "Clarity". Christie Front Drive deserves alot of respect for their continued influence on today's overblown "emo" scene. Hope this was helpful!

Unforgettable, April 18, 2011
I'll admit, you should be jealous. I found this CD at a pawn shop for 99 cents. How could I NOT pass it up after I've heard such great things about this short-lived band?
Christie Front Drive is one of those bands you hear about from your oldest brother and his friends, or maybe amongst true musicianship talking about "innovation" and "emotion". The record is dense, yet cold and timid. Explosions of bellowing lyrics, crying guitars and pervasive, yet controlled drums sits in between crevices of soft lyrics and quiet interludes. And the quirky unlisted instrumental tracks lend some depth into the rest of the tracks.
Don't be scared away by the six-track song listing. There are actually 10 tracks, the other four being interludes. This is a record (most songs clock in around 5-6 minutes) and NOT an EP.
Christie Front Drive's self-titled CD takes a few listens to get used to; I'll admit that on the first listen I wasn't impressed. I was curious enough to hear it the second time, and by the third time I couldn't get the songs out of my head. This album will have you scratching your head at first, but then grows on you and in no time will become a staple in your top albums list.
The most notable impression left however, is the faith that good bands are still to be discovered and one day, bands like Christie Front Drive will get the recognition they deserve.

One of those rare gems, June 5, 2009
This review is from: Christie Front Drive (Audio CD)
I remember Matt Traxler of Brandtson recommending this when he still operated Steadfast Records. That was so long ago. I remember getting it in the mail and first listening to it. I was absolutely blown away. The other reviewer is pretty dead on. If you like old JEW, and Mineral you'll love this album. So good.
