5.0 out of 5 stars Christine Proves She's "The Songbird"
This Christine McVie solo album is one of my all time favorite albums ever recorded by anybody.

It has that marvelous "woody clarinet" voice of Christine at its absolute best and some of the most driving and melodic songs ever penned.

From the very fist note of the very first track: "Love Will Show Us How" you just know that you've made the best...

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid, but un-exceptional solo venture
Christine McVie has been a vital asset to Fleetwood Mac for the past 30 or so years. As guitarists/vocalists have come and gone, she has stuck with her bandmates. And unlike Stevie Nicks, who tended to save her best original songs for her solo projects, Christine never skimped with her songcraft when it came to FM's albums of the '80s. Trouble is, with a few...

This Christine McVie solo album is one of my all time favorite albums ever recorded by anybody.

It has that marvelous "woody clarinet" voice of Christine at its absolute best and some of the most driving and melodic songs ever penned.

From the very fist note of the very first track: "Love Will Show Us How" you just know that you've made the best musical selection ever when you purchased this album.
Every track is a "keeper" . . . "Ask Anybody" . . . and then my own best of the best choice, "Got A Hold On Me" -- "I got a love . . this love . . got a hold one me . . . " the syncopated rhythmic beat is like a clock ticking away heart-beat after heartbeat of "this love" . . and it does have a hold on me!

And the beautiful poetic question in song, "Who's Dreaming This Dream" -- (who's dreaming this dream with me?) . . . this track alon all by itself will make you glad that you own this particular cd by Christine McVie!

If you were or are a fan of Fleetwood Mac . . or if you never even heard Fleetwood Mac . . or even if you didn't particularly like Fleetwood Mac, get THIS Christine McVie cd . . . you will never take it out of your cd changer . . it will find a permanent home there . . and in your musical heart and memory!

Thank You Ms Christine McVie for all of your musical gifts to us over the years . . and special thanks for THIS one . . it will always be remembered as your greatest and your best work! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars A great solo effort from F. Mac's most underrated member, February 19, 1999

If you like the songs Christine does with Fleetwood Mac, you have to get this. You should also check out the Fleetwood Mac album "Mystery To Me" which contains a lot of great Christine songs. I think it is important to note that Christine wrote most of the hit singles for Fleetwood Mac. Lindsey and Stevie seem to get most of the buzz, and Mick Fleetwood himself pointed out that Christine sometimes gets forgotten.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Anchor of Fleetwood Mac, McVie Shines with Performance, June 14, 1998
By
This review is from: Christine McVie (Audio CD)
The hidden gem of Fleetwood Mac went solo in 1984. Christine McVie is truly underated in her talent as a singer and songwriter. If you like the smooth vocal blends and the consistent performance that Fleetwood Mac offers, you'll love this work. Christine shows that she can write and sing blues, ballads, and mid-tempo rhythms that would make Mick Fleetwood turn his head. In fact, Mick is on a song or two. Not only is McVie in better voice than ever, her songs tend to rock a little harder her norm. McVie also creates many atmostpheres that stick to a very pleasant formula. While she doesn't go over the top like Lindsey Buckingham, this album is very solid and a definite gem for your collection. It's safe to say that Fleetwood Mac would have a huge hole without Christine. Great songs: One in a Million, Got A Hold On Me, Ask Anybody, This Smile I Live For, and The Challenge.

5.0 out of 5 stars An awesome album, January 1, 2004
This review is from: Christine McVie (Audio CD)
While I am primarily an enormous fan of the talents of Lindsey Buckingham and his solo work, Christine McVie's self titled solo album without a doubt is my second favorite Fleetwood Mac member solo album ever (Out Of The Cradle by Lindsey Buckingham is my favorite.)
Christine made a truly amazing album. My favorite song is The Challenge which Buckingham does background vocals for. Though I agree Christine does deserve a large bulk of the credit for making such a great sounding album, a good portion has to go to the band she put together with Todd Sharp on guitar, George Hawkins on bass and Steve Farrone on drums. These guys not only co-wrote the songs (in Sharp's case), vocalized on the album (in Sharp and Hawkins' case) but they are the ones who made the album sound as sweet as it does. If there had been three other muscians for this album, I'm certain it would not have been as good. Also, it was nice to have some guest members on several tracks in the album. Along with Buckingham were Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood and Steve Winwood.
The first time I listened to this album start to finish, it became my second favorite. I know that a lot of music lovers who have not yet bought this album would love Christine McVie after doing the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gem from a wonderful songbird., January 26, 2004

Christine McVie's second and final solo album--originally released in 1984 (the first was in the late 60s under her maiden name Christine Perfect). A terrific set of pop songs with her characteristic catchy choruses, sublime melodies, and themes on love.
Highlights include the sparkling chart hit "Got a Hold on Me" (it stays in your head long after you listen), the soft and haunting "Ask Anybody", country-tinged "So Excited", guitar rocker "The Challenge (with the exceptional Eric Clapton guesting), and the upbeat "Love Will Show us How" (a minor chart hit with a very funny video).
Christine experiments with various formats and tempos--pop, r&b, country, ballads. And she does all of them well. Her voice remains the best thing about anything she touches and sounds great throughout, with her keyboards coming in a close second. In addition to Clapton, she also gets invaluable assistance from Lindsay Buckingham (guitar and background vocals), MIck Fleetwood (drums), Stevie Winwood (keyboards, writing, and vocals--including a duet on "One in a Million") and Eddie Quintala. Her core band sounds great too--Todd Sharp (also a cowriter on several of the tracks), Geroge Hawkins, and Steve Ferrone.
One wishes she would do another record, either solo or with Fleetwood Mac. Her reitirement from the music industry left us with a big hole. But at least we have this very special and underrated gem from the mid 80s to keep us happy. Come back Christine.

4.0 out of 5 stars The most underrated woman in rock!, January 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Christine McVie (Audio CD)
Christine has one of the most beautiful, melodic voices I have ever heard. It's a shame more people don't realize this. Though none of FM's members are quite as good on their own, if Christine had been properly marketed and produced, I feel her solo career would have rivaled Stevie Nicks'. This album deserved to go platinum. It's surprising that more than two singles weren't released; The Challenge and One In A Million are just as good as any of her FM material, and could have charted. There is, however, a few duds. So Excited doesn't fit well with the rest of the songs, and Who's Dreaming This Dream is boring. But there is something for every FM/CM fan out there; you won't be sorry you bought this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, no FM collection is complete without it!, March 27, 1999
This review is from: Christine McVie (Audio CD)
This CD is just as good as any of Stevie, and Lindsey's solo albums. The only difference is that this one never got tons of media attention. This album also has some really great musicians such as Lindsey Buckingham, Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood, and Eddy Quintela <3..... (May I also suggest searching here and there for the Christine Perfect album. It's not too easy to find, but well worth it once you do.)

I was not disappointed at all when I bought this when it first came out on tape and have now bought it again on cd. Christine delivers her signature style of keyboard oriented lite rock with great outstanding vocals. The music style is similar to her classic songs she did with Fleetwood Mac. Steve Winwood helps her out on a few tracks with synthesizers and also vocals on "One in a Million". Lindsey Buckingham,Eric Clapton, and Mick Fleetwood also appear on few tracks.
