Bootsy is Back!,
By
This review is from: Christmas Is 4 Ever (Audio CD)
This may be his best album ever! I'm not a real fan of Christmas Music and although I have several 70's Bootsy albums; I expected one or two good songs at best. But every song on this album is ultra-funky. He opens the album by saying that there may be one or two surprises and it takes off --space bass--to the moon.
He even put a Christmas version of I'd Rather Be With You. If you like the Bootsy from Back in the Day and can handle the funk--you won't be disappointed!

Funky Hip Christmas Album,
This review is from: Christmas Is 4 Ever (Audio CD)
Get a jump on your holiday music and pick up Christmas Is 4 Ever by Bootsy Collins. This is the kind of CD you can put on and vibe to while you are cooking Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. As always, Bootsy keeps it funky. It really is one of the most upbeat and energetic Christmas albums that I can recall being released in the past few years. It's quickly become my favorite Christmas CD. Bootsy puts his funky spin on the classics and he even brought along a few of his famous friends. Snoop Dogg is the featured rapper on the song "Happy Holidaze." "Be With You," is another funky new Christmas classic from Bootsy and friends. Zapp Troutman brings the talkbox flavor to this song.
Christmas Is 4 Ever features special Christmas Messages from Bishop Magic Don Juan, Buckethead, Moma Willis, Parison Princess, Roger Troutman (yes, a message from Roger) and George Clinton. Guest vocalists and muscians on the album include Bobby Womack, Charlie Daniels, and many more. I love this album and could listen to it year round. Christmas Is 4 Ever is in stores now and was released by Shout! Factory.

Bootsy brings his funk WMD in a huge way here. Guest appearances by Snoop Dog and Bobby Womack add to the spice and fire of this sassy and sexy pleasure cruise. It is on the top of my play list 4 ever!
Bring back the funk!

Don't miss the MUSIC here!,

I'm a big Bootsy fan from way back, but when I picked this up I expected it to be sort of a goofy novelty. But the music on here is really incredible. Bootsy knows when to fill out the arrangements with bizarre sounds and textures, without making it feel cluttered. It just adds to the fonk. There are some sweet, swangin' horn charts on most the tracks. And the way that Bootsy and co. have rearranged the melody and vocal lines on "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" is nothing short of magnificent. Bootsy's not known as a jazz man, but he accomplishes here what any jazz fan would expect in a Christmas album: a fresh and imaginative reworking of the material. By taking standard songs that have been done and redone to death, and fonking around with them, he reveals a musicality that most people who think of him as kind of a clown never imagined he had. Okay, though, those who like good ol' rump-shakin' fonk with that slow, lumbering P-Funk tempo are still in for a treat, even if they ignore all the cool stuff going on over the groove (and, happily, most of the drum tracks are live rather than programmed, with Bootsy, Cash Waddy, Melvin Parker, and other funky drummers pumping the skins). Mr. Collins, my hat's off to you. This is as good a record as you've ever done.

Bootsy+Christmas=Double your pleasure, bobba! The only question is why didn't this happen sooner? Even though I'm a HUGE P-Funk fan from back in the day, I've been mostly disappointed by recent P-Funk albums; they just haven't been able to capture that original magic. That's not a problem with this CD at all! In fact, this is Bootsy's best album since "The One Giveth, The Count Taketh Away," and if you remember that one, you're a true funkateer! The most important words in the liner notes are "Produced, Recorded and Mixed by Bootsy Collins." Bootsy takes control of his own sound, and you can hear the difference. He keeps the hip-hop to a minimum here; not that I have anything against hip-hop, but for me, there's nothing like classic P-Funk. After all, you don't hear the Eagles or the Rolling Stones trying to sound like Coldplay or Nickelback, do you? My favorite song on this CD is "Boot-Off" (AKA Rudolph). This is an old-school monster jam, complete with familiar lines like "If you fake the funk, your nose will grow" and references to the mothership. Bootsy's Space Bass never sounded better (I sure hope there's a video for this song!) "Silent Night" is an uptempo, very funky version of the Christmas classic, but if you pay attention to the lyrics, you find it to be very reverent. In fact, there's a nice spiritual thread woven throughout this CD; Bootsy doesn't ignore the real reason for the season. Trombone player extraordinaire Fred Wesley tears it up on "Silent Night," and his welcome presence is all over this CD. It would have been nice to hear Maceo Parker, too, but Bootsy has most of the old P-Funk mob in on this party. He even has country artist Charlie Daniels play the fiddle and sing background on "Sleigh Ride." On the title cut, "Christmas is 4 Ever," Bootsy gets surprisingly sentimental whils reminiscing about his mother. This just might be the best Christmas CD I've ever heard. I can say this without any doubt - this is the most fun I've ever had listening to a Christmas CD. What a gift! If you're a Bootsy fan, this CD is a must-have. If you just want some unique, fun and funky Christmas music, this CD is for you. Thank you, Bootsy, and FUNK ON, BABY-BOBBA!!!

As always, Funk at it's highest delight. It's almost like hearing James Brown & Funkadelic / Parliament doing a Christmas CD together. Old school / real school Funk!!!

"Make a joyful noise..." Obviously, a call went out from heaven to create the most festive and brilliant Christmas album ever, and Bootsy & company answered, merrily and fonkily. On CI4E, Casper the Holy Ghost has become an avatar of the Spirit of Christmas and has delivered a mirthful masterpiece. Accompanied by four original tracks, these Christmas classics are reinterpreted and revivified, and the music is truly awesome! The infectious arrangements are at times simply dazzling, and after listening to the CD the first time through, it will occur to you, as well, why Bootsy is legendary and lovable. What a heavenly host of gifted musicians; what a gift. Enjoy!

Great album!

This is a totally different kind of Xmas music. It's enjoyable, amusing, and strange (but upbeat). But what do you expect from Bootsy (smile).
