3.0 out of 5 stars too much background "noise"
I just wanted Michael Crawford singing Christmas carols not all the background music and backup singers. too much of a production (formal) for my taste.I love Michael Crawford but I didn't like this CD and I won't play it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars MICHAEL CRAWFORD FANS & CHRISTIANS ALIKE THIS IS A MUST HAVE, October 23, 1999
By
This review is from: A Christmas Album (Audio CD)
As a rule I do not listen to Christmas music until the day after Thanksgiving, but not this year. I have long been a fan of Michael Crawford. 10 Years ago, I became a Christian because of his music. I was overjoyed with "ON EAGLES WINGS" but this album tops it. The first time I heard "O, HOLY NIGHT", I had not only goose bumps on my arms, but tears streaming down my face. This song is pure, unadulterated praise and worship. This song, alone, will make you feel you've truly heard an angel's voice. "MARY DID YOU KNOW?", is also a soaring testament to the meaning of Christmas. As usual, Michael can pack emotion in each and every word, whether it be joy, praise or to bring a tear to the eye. For anyone who has a special relationship with her father, you will cry over "Scarlet Ribbons". The orchestrations and the children's choir are an excellant and uplifting blend with his emotional voice. The children's choir add a feel of light-heartedness and joy, as they will bring a smile to the face. For those familiar with contemporary Christian music, you will be treated to Twila Paris on "WHAT A STRANGE WAY TO SAVE THE WORLD". There isn't a bad song on the entire album. This is an excellant follow up to "ON EAGLES WINGS". I have long awaited a Christmas album from Michael and the wait has been well worth while. I would highly recommend this album to Christians and non-Christians alike as a wonderful addition to your Christmas collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Christmas album by far!, November 29, 1999
This review is from: A Christmas Album (Audio CD)
Michael Crawford has the most amazing voice and he proves it in this CD. I first time I saw this CD was here and I bought it then and there. I am 13, but still love anything and everything this man does. He has the voice of an angel and, I'll say it again, it shows on this CD. MAKE ANOTHER CHRISTMAS CD! Some of my favorite songs are 'Scarlet Ribbons', 'Mary, Did You Know?", and 'Strange Way to Save the World'. They aren't well-known songs like 'Holly, Jolly Christmas' or 'Rudolph', but you learn to love each and every measure of music. I wish there were more!

This is the most beautiful Christmas album I have ever heard. It has a wonderful mix of standard Christmas carols and contemporary songs I had never heard before. God took an angel's voice and gave it to Michael Crawford.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Christmas Vocal I've Ever Heard...., November 21, 2000
This review is from: A Christmas Album (Audio CD)
In this timeless Christmas album, Michael Crawford has delivered to us the best vocals and a significant message: reminds us of what Christmas is all about. This is not like another Christmas album filled with re-makes of ditties that flood into the stores at this time of the year. Yet it is a masterpiece for the holiday.

Packed with passion and emotion, every single word delivered by Crawford represents strength and power. Performance of "Mary, Did You Know" re-directs us back to the meaning of Christmas - the celebration of birth of Christ. "O Holy Night" is a beautiful piece that will brings lump to your throat and tears in yur eyes. "Scarlet Ribbons" is another of my favorite pick.

Backed by flamboyant orchestration, the album presents a passionate concert for the holiday with Michael Crawford. The lucid, solid, and tenor voice, combined with theatricality spices up the entire listening experience. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Michael Crawford's Lush Voice in an Atypical Christmas Album, November 24, 1999

Like most Michael Crawford fans, I am drawn to most anything he does. His particular vocal quality makes even mid-range high notes sound like he is soaring (and with ease, I might add) -- this is one of any tenor's appeal to the masses. Additionally, the songs are in many cases little known, so I found myself listening more intently to the lyrics, which are beautiful in their simplicity. They bring home the message of Christ's birth and its importance in our world.

I did find some of the arrangements to be rather unusual, and in some cases (Joy to the World, in particular) the tempo was simply too fast. That said, however, Michael Crawford comes off once again with a sincere and appealing sound, and a recording that you won't duplicate with any other collection or performer.

During 12/93, there aired a Christmas TV special called "David Foster's Christmas Album" which I videotaped and kept in my video archives [album: The Christmas Album by David Foster; Interscope 92295]. One piece, Michael Crawford's `O Holy Night' was absolutely incredible. Around Christmas time, I pull out the videotape and listen (and I do mean listen) to Crawford sing this one song over and over, ad infinitum. I never get sick of it. Each time seems better than the last. Watching Crawford sing this song is an experience in itself - his ribcage inflating like bagpipes in order to prepare for that last `noel' shows his talent. This exact song/rendition is on this album. The entire album uses childrens' choirs. Which album you choose really depends on whether you want only Michael Crawford + choirs, or want many singers like Celine Dion and Tom Jones. Both albums get an A+.

O Holy Night rivals Gethsemene for goosebumps! Not a bad song on here. His voice is as wonderful as when he first did Phantom 10 years ago.

5.0 out of 5 stars No One's Better Than Michael, December 13, 2005

I bought this CD for one song - "O Holy Night." In my opinion, there is absolutely NO ONE - not even Josh Groban - that can touch Michael Crawford's performance of this beautiful song. No one in my house or car is allowed to even speak when this song is playing, and I must play it more than once...

The rest of the album is a glorious potpourri of carols (A Journey To Bethlehem), hymns (Peace, Peace/Silent Night), and touching holiday melodies (Scarlet Ribbons), all wrapped up in the velvet warmth of Michael's voice. We always have this playing when decorating our tree; Christmas wouldn't be the same without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Angel of Music Sings Again!, December 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A Christmas Album (Audio CD)
Whether he is enchanting you from behind a dressing room mirror, or from your cd player, Michael Crawford is undoubtedly the most "angelic" voice of the decade. Who better than the angel of music to deliver for the holidays a beautiful collection of Christmas hymns that we all know and love?
