About the Artist

Michael Damian is a multi-faceted performer who, in addition to his television credits, has scored a Billboard Number 1 hit with "Rock On", earned a BMI songwriting award for his composition "Was It Nothing At All", and starred in a record-breaking Broadway production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." Michael's musical success is a combination of genetics, hard work and perseverance: he is the second youngest of nine children whose parents shared with their family a deep appreciation and love for music - as well as a desire to create it. Michael started performing at the age of 10 (vocals/organ/vibes), joining his siblings in their band "The Weirz", before launching his solo multi-media career. On "Michael Damian and Family: The Christmas Album", Michael once again enlists the help of his relatives - more than 20 family members in all, including his classically trained mother, Maria, who provides piano arrangements, accompaniment, and production; father Larry Sr.; brothers and regular collaborators Larry Weir (with whom he co-wrote the now-classic opening track, "Christmas Time Without You") and Tom Weir, a well-known producer/engineer/studio owner on the L.A. Music Scene. This Album has everything but a Partridge in a pear tree, although, if you listen carefully, you can actually hear five sisters playing, four nieces singing, three nephews wailing, two sisters' husbands, and a wife and mother-in-law.

Additional songs from the album will be performed by Damian on the CBS soap the "Young and the Restless", where he is known to millions of fans from his role as Danny Romalotti. In addition to the single, the album contains 11 holiday classics and two other originals, which are soon to be. Adding their considerable talents to the production are world-class musicians, including Tim Pierce (guitars), Josh Freeze (drums), Burliegh Drummond (percussion, drums), Steve Madaio (trumpet), Nick Lane (trombone), JD Daniel (piano), Michael Parnell (programming and keyboards), and Ginger Murphy (cello).

This album makes me wish I were from a big family. Of course, not all large clans have the talent and connections that this group does: this is a really FUN album, featuring lots of great performances, not only by family members, but also by some of the top session musicians around, guys that have played with Chicago, the Stones, etc. As you would expect, the horn parts are great (very Chicago-esque), but so are the strings (especially the cello), and there's an amazing vocal duet by a couple of Michael's nieces who sound like a female version of Simon and Garfunkel. The thing I like best is that the there's a lot of variety in the production, the classics sound great, and the originals are nice too, like the excellent "Christmas Time Without You", and one which sounds like it could have been a newly discovered track from a "Christmas with Elvis" session. Pretty cool stuff.

Whether or not you're a Michian Damian/Weir Family fan, I believe this album will become one of your Christmas favorites. I bought it in the middle of the summer but can't quit listening to it. It is simply amazing the talent that is in one single family. Put them all together, and it's DY NO MITE!

Michael Damian and his family are among the few who can take songs that have been recorded over and over and over and make them sound fresh and inviting. Then there are the two bonus numbers written by family members--very enjoyable!
