Nat King Cole was way before his time. Too bad he passed away so soon. We could have had a lot more beautiful music from him. I'm just sorry the generations since his passing probably don't know what they're missing by not listening to his beautiful voice. It's here to be purchased (at great prices) and listened to. One can't help but be touched by it and just love it. I agree with everyone else, you can't have Christmas without some of our generations' singers, and Nat King Cole is surely one of them.
And by the way, is ANYONE out there recording any Christmas Music these days? I haven't heard any, but then again I don't listen to the popular music of today. They would probably botch it all up so that I wouldn't even recognize it as Christmas music.
Thanks again Amazon for allowing us to replace our LPs and 78's (and even some 45's) with CDs. I'm not a music expert, I just know what I like and when I hear it, and it does not bother me if the people who made it possible to hear this music again after all these years didn't get it as "sharp" or less this or more of that. I'm just not that interested in all of that. So long as it sounds just as good as it did back then, and one must understand that all of that technology wasn't available back then, so one cannot expect that music to sound like it was recorded yesterday. I just want to hear Nat King Cole singing however I can get him. And Andy Williams, And Frank Sinatra, And Perry Como, And Bing Crosby, and Tony Bennett and others who slip my mind right now. I've been shopping for them all on CDs to replace my old worn out things.

Perhaps even THE all-time classic Christmas album ever assembled. The title is different from the original 1961 'The Christmas Song' album but that is a minor issue. Here, Nat's flawless vocals combined with ever so sweet orchestrations and choral backings, provide us with a collection of standard Christmas carols, hymns and songs that will live on as long as Christmas lives on in our hearts. The selection of fun songs combined with reverently performed carols and hymns is without equal. There seems to be additional selections added since I bought the original vinyl LP so many years ago, decades for that matter. 'The Christmas Song' is without doubt the great classic Christmas song of our time and no one even comes close to Nat's delivery on this recording. It should be noted that he also had a very similar studio recording of this same song back in 1946 and you can hear the subtle differences between the two versions of the song. I prefer the 1961 recording as included on this CD. Add to that favorites like 'Adeste Fideles', 'Silent Night', 'Away In A Manger', 'Caroling Caroling', 'The First Noel', 'I Saw Three Ships', 'O Little Town Of Bethlehem', 'Joy To The World' and 'O Tannenbaum'(sung in German) among others and you will find yourself playing this over and over again. Both of my teen daughters have it on the iPods and playlists. That speaks volumes! I cannot recommend this more fervently to you! Buy it and be happy!

I bought this CD mainly based on my fond memories as a child. Honestly I didn't listen to all the track samples and wish I had. There are four tracks such as "The Christmas Song", O Little Town of Bethlehem" and a couple others that I truly love, but there are also some tracks that, though Nat King Cole's voice is superb, suffer from some kitch production from the era. Frost the Snowman for example suffers from some chipmunk style voices injected into it, ugh.

The four stars I gave this are in no way a reflection on Nat King Cole's musical abilities, he is one of the all time classic voices. Unfortunately I almost feel for him now in listening to a few of these tracks. So all in all I guess I've learned to make sure and sample all the tracks on a CD before purchasing and not trusting an aging memory of musical taste from my childhood :)

On the upside, the quality of Nat King Cole's voice and musical feel are simply other worldly in my opinion and I don't regret the purchase in the least.
