High quality pop-up Xmas card,
By "100+ Wedding Games" author (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Christmas Alphabet Cards (Cards)
I first saw these at a store and thought it was a beautiful collection. Each of the 26 cards are different, one for each letter of the alphabet (Y is for Yule log, etc.). So every recipient will get a unique card. The cards are rather petite, but they felt high quality, sturdy and well made. The pop-ups ranged from a static 3-D scene to some basic movements, like a smaller "To:" gift label that pops out of a scene, another card is of the nutcracker figure that closes its mouth. The messages inside each of the cards varied as well, some said Merry Christmas, others said Happy Holidays.

Great, thoughtfully-made cards!,

I love these cards and am purchasing a second set since the first set was so popular and wonderful to give away! A previous reviewer had given it only 1 star because they said the cards don't say "Merry Christmas" and has nothing about Christmas inside. The latter is not true. If anything, there is a slight Christian slant on a couple of the cards: one with baby Jesus, one with a lovely pop-up Bethlehem and star, and one stained-glass window one depicting the Virgin Mary and baby (and maybe a few more I can't think of right now). A large majority of the cards can be given away to anyone of any religion celebrating the holiday season.
Anyway, if you wanted cards that said "Merry Christmas" on them, there are plenty of other cards to choose from. Or you can write it in yourself; meanings of Christmas come from the personally written message, not the pre-printed greeting card! But how many holiday greeting cards are POP-UPs, for goodness sakes? They're delightful to open, and if you have a ton of cards to send out but very little time to write a lot of text, the small space each card offers will take care of that for you. One thing I love best about these cards is that they offer so much variety of holiday symbols (though admittingly, no Hanukkah or Kwanzaa symbols) that somehow match up with the diverse set of recipients I send these out to.

I purchased these cards at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and wish I had bought at least 3 sets. Every card I put into an envelope I want to keep for myself. Each card is truly a little gift! Additionally, I am glad they say Happy Holidays because I have many friends celebrating different things this time of year. I am going to buy additional sets just to have (or give as gifts) for next year.

A Sabuda Fan LOVES these cards!,

Just received my set yesterday and they are fabulous! So detailed and interesting. Sabuda is the pop-up master. If you're looking for a different holiday card to send, this is it. The cards are heavy and colorful and the pop-ups are terrific and all are holiday themed. Can't wait to hear my friends and family ooh and ahh over them!

I purchased these cards with the thought of sending them to "special people" on my card list. Well darn, they are so beautiful that I find myself keeping more than I thought I would for holiday decorations around my house. I placed the "V" card, a most beautiful blue and white little gem, underneath a mini tableside tree. "P" for poinsetta is placed in the guest bath on a shelf. So,it seems, some of my "special people" are now receiving "back up cards"..However, for those who visit, they will find little gems tucked in special corners through out the house.
Those lucky enough to recieve a card are getting a special gift. The paper is high quality. The white cutouts against fields of complimentary colors can be soft and quiet or joyful and ringing. The only negative is that space to pen a note or sign is not going to happen on the inside of the card. First, you'd ruin the beautiful inside and second, these are small cards, 3.5"x 5" - I signed on the back and wrote brief notes (a respite from all the newsey family letters we all receive). I suggest, that those who want to save them for annual decorations, they be wrapped in acid free tissue paper available at most art stores.

The Hit of the Holidays,

All of our friends and relatives commented on how much they liked these cards and because each one is different, we enjoyed picking just the right card for the recipients. My husband insists on creative cards each year because he's in a creative field. I'm not sure how we're going to top these next year!

I received the Christmas Alphabet Cards today. They surpassed my expectations! I know my family and friends will be pleasantly surprised when they open their cards. In the past, I have purchased one of Robert Sabuda's pop-up books. He is such an unique artist! The beautiful snowflake design tin is a plus. You can fill it with Christmas "goodies" and give it to someone special.

Unique Christmas Cards,

I was very pleased with the quality and construction of these cards. They are high quality and precision made.. and very unique :)
They all worked perfectly. There were definite favorites in the pack and ones I didn't like so much but since there are 26 of them, I had plenty to send out that i did like. Recipients were pleased with the cards and thought them unique as well. Be aware though that the cards are small and the popup portion takes up most of the space in the card. There is not much room to write anything. A Note: Most people didn't notice that each card was associated with a letter of the alphabet. Be sure to point out to them the notation on the back of the card so they can see what the pop-up relates to :0

A Joyful Collection with a Practical Side,

Only in a product of this high quality could everyone be right. I agree with each 4-star and 5-star rating given to these cards. Each card is precision cut, constructed from heavy paper, feels good in your hand, and is an imaginative expression of Christmas.
It is true the cards are on the smallish side, 3.5" x 5", but their impact upon opening them exceeds other greeting cards three to five times their size. For example, the pop-ups in quite a few of the cards burst forth to form a large display that just about fills the entire opened card with a flower, village, manger, or snowflake. There is even a candle that has a spinning halo around the flame. Obviously, the cards delight me but they also appeal to my practical side: There is a card in the box for just about everyone, including the cynic who hasn't let his inner child out in a long time (see "T" is for toy). There are cards in the assortment for those who prefer a religious, traditional, or childhood theme. So, instead of buying two or three or more boxes of cards and storing the unused cards for next year, one box of these cards just might do it for the season. |
