A big fan of Dave Barnes, I'm pleasantly surprised to see he released a Christmas album. Color me even more surprised when I heard a familiar voice accompanying the second track and found out it is none other than Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott. Consider me late to the party.

The album offers just the right amount of traditional songs like "I'll Be Home for Christmas," and "All I Want for Christmas is You," while still providing a healthy dose of new Christmas favorites like the album's namesake "Very Merry Christmas," and my personal favorites "I Pray on Christmas" and "Family Tree."

Add this one to your Christmas music collection for a more diverse sampling of yuletide cheer. Barnes does it up right with the perfect blend of soul, pop, and that little bit of jazzy pep that has you subconsciously dancing while you frost your endless batch of Christmas sugar cookies.

I've listened to many Christmas albums, but this one stands out. These Christmas songs have such a refreshing and relaxing sound... it reminds me of the feeling you get when listening to Norah Jones. I love "Holiday Made for Two" and "Christmas Tonight" (with Hillary Scott from Lady Antebellum).

In summary... BUY IT! You won't be disappointed! It's not the same Christmas music you hear over and over... it's a nice new mix :)

This is great! I can't believe I've never heard of this guy before now. I downloaded the free sample, listened to it off and on for a few days and then decided I had to look up more of his music. I was pleasantly surprised to discover he had released a full Christmas album and that it was so cheap on Amazon. After about 10 listens all the way through, I can wholeheartedly recommend this album! It is soulful without being over-sung. It's catchy without being annoying. A great balance of very listenable and beautiful Christmas songs. My favorites are the less traditional songs, like "Christmas Tonight" and "Meet Me at the Mistletoe". My least favorite thing about the album, is that it's pretty short at 10 songs. It's goes really fast. Buy this!

After a while, all Christmas music starts to sound the same, which is why I'm so happy to have discovered Dave Barnes' CD, Very Merry Christmas. It's stylish, romantic, thoughtful, and most importantly, fun! I thought other CDs were my favorite Christmas CDs of 2010, until I listened to Very Merry Christmas, which is now on permanent rotation for every holiday season. It may have just cracked my personal top 10 ALL time Christmas CDs!

When I first heard this CD, I felt his lyrics to have real warmth to them and they felt drenched in personal relationships, whether it is with family, God or that special someone. I felt something special.

This CD is perfect for a quiet evening cuddling with your beloved by the fire, as background music for that classy Christmas party, or even just as a break from the craziness of the of the holiday season.

1. Very Merry Christmas: The CD's title track, Talks about a couple visiting with a house full of family for the holidays. Very good start to the CD. Fun and
catchy beat

2. Christmas Tonight (With Hillary Scott): This song right here is the best on this CD. The BEST Christmas song of the YEAR! I believe this will be copied for years to come. Can you say instant classic?! If you can't afford the CD, then buy this song!

3. All I Want For Christmas Is You: Good version of Mariah's classic!

4. Meet Me At The Mistletoe: This is probably the second best song on this CD. LOVE IT!

5. I'll Be Home for Christmas: Not much you can do with this Bing Crosby classic, but Dave nailed it.

6. I Pray On Christmas: This version is BETTER then the Harry Connick Original!

7. Family Tree: Good tune! Gets better and better the more you hear it.

I've been a fan of Dave's for a while now and this new Christmas record is a 10 out of 10. The covers are great, the originals are great and I especially love the song with Hillary Scott from Lady A. And for $5 on Amazon? Easy decision.

I love everything Dave Barnes has ever done, and I have a large collection of Christmas music, so this album was a no-brainer for me. Dave didn't disappoint, either on the album or on the Christmas tour which I saw last week (it included Drew Holcomb and Gabe Dixon, two other great artists).

It's unusual for a Christmas album to have 7/10 original songs, but Barnes is a strong enough songwriter to pull it off. The non-Dave-written tunes are "All I Want for Christmas," "I'll Be Home for Christmas," "I Pray on Christmas," and "The Christmas Song." He didn't choose to cover a lot of traditional Christmas carols -- a bold move. Additionally, choosing to go up against the memory of Nat King Cole on "The Christmas Song" shows a certain chutzpah. Fortunately he has the soothing pipes to pull it off (and I love Cole's version).

His original songs show both a reverence for the season and a sense of fun, which is true to who he is as a person. This is a great album and one that will be listened to year after year. Highly recommended.
