5.0 out of 5 stars Christmas Blues is not White
Full of soul and holiday spirit is this 4 track EP by Holly Cole. The title song is one that was popularized by Dean Martin on his Christmas collection. This bluesy ballad version is warm and heartfelt. Her remake of The Pretender's 2000 Miles is totally remarkable. Her voice deepens on part of the song and is sung totally different than Chrissy Hynde's version. Please...

1.0 out of 5 stars SKIP THIS ONE
ALTHOUGH HOLLY'S VOICE WOULD BE WELCOME IN MY HOME AT THE HOLIDAYS, THIS DISC IS NOT AT ALL WELCOME.. IF YOU WANT TO HEAR MORE, THOUGH NOT COMPLETE HOLLY HOLIDAY EXPERIENCE, GET THE IMPORT SANTA BABY.. MUCH MORE INTERESTING.

Finnally, there is her version of The Andrew Sister's I'd Like To Hitch A Ride With Santa Claus. It has frolicing jazzy feel along with it's humerous overtone. The only disapointing thing about this disc is that there are only 4 songs. I have her live Santa Baby disc, but it doesn't have the same feel that this CD started to produce. I could easily see her adding Santa Baby, Nuthin' For Christmas(Eartha Kitt's version) and others to make this a complete holiday collection.

In this 4 song Christmas EP, Holly brings her unique stylings to The Pretender's 2000 Miles. Her voice changes octives and you think she is dueting with a man at first, but it all works well.
Then there is the Andrew Sister's remake of I'd Like To Hitch a Ride With Santa Claus with makes you feel as if you are actually in the sleigh with a glass of red wine. :) The opening track is the Dean Martin made famous song Christmas Blues. It's piano and vocals are cool and soothing. And last, but not least is her version of the pop Christmas classic Please Come Home For Christmas.

I wish that there were a full CD of Christmas cool yule and my wish almost came true. she recorded a live CD in 1995, Japan only with Santa Baby and live versions of 3 of the songs here. Then came the full length 2001 Baby It's Cold Outside with the Japan only bonus track Miracle. It was nice but after all these years, something seemed missing from this original project.
Never-the-less there is enough Holly Cole Christmas tunes to pick and choose your own personal favorites. Don't forget to include the 1998 song recorded for her Treasure CD called Christmas Trees And Holly Leaves.
Happy Holidays!

1.0 out of 5 stars rip off - only 4 songs on a CD 12 whole minutes - whoopee, December 23, 1998
This review is from: Christmas Blues (Audio CD)
The songs are OK but a CD with only 4 short songs on it is just plain wrong.
