5.0 out of 5 stars The Christmas Candle
If you are a person who reads books to school children, this is a perfect book to read. It is the best holiday book with true meaning I have read, that teaches children to look in their environment to find ways to be helpful, and the true meaning of the holidays, that we are all one large family of mankind. You will not be disappointed in purchasing this book. Beautiful...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the money
Did not think the book was worth the money I paid for it. It has 12 pages. If I had known that, I would'nt have purchased it.

I really enjoyed reading this book. What a powerful message it gives to its readers. What a difference this world would be if we could all be more giving and compassionate to everyone we come in contact with. I would reccommend this book to anyone that has a heart.

I bought this book to read to my class as a Christmas story. This is an excellent book, but it is deep. It is a great story for upper elementary (4th or 5th grade) or even middle school. It would be an excellent book for upper elementary/middle school Sunday school class. Not to sound too much like a teacher-but it has a lot of symbolism. The pictures are extraordinary-the eyes of the people in the illustrations are penetrating and touch you down to the soul.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent tale of giving being a precondition for receiving, July 10, 2009
This review is from: The Christmas candle (Hardcover)
This is a delightful tale of Christmas, where the act of giving means that you are receiving. On Christmas Eve, Thomas is a man in a hurry. When he pushes aside a beggar to enter a candle shop, he is also curt with the proprietor, calling him foolish and an old man. When the man sells him a candle for four coppers and says, "... you may find it costly", Thomas shouts at the man.
The trip home is one where he encounters poor people and "sees" them as his beloved relatives. He gives them all he has; yet when he gets home, his relatives are fine. This causes a major awakening so he leaves the comfort of his destination and goes back out to take care of another.
The lesson here is strong and clear, kindness begets kindness and sometimes the greatest level of receipt is when we give. It is an excellent book for young children during the Christmas season.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another version of A Christmas Carol, January 2, 2008
This review is from: The Christmas Candle (Hardcover)
I bought candles and copies of the book for all my office mates as well as for my children. This Christmas eve, we opened stockings to lighted candles and read the book aloud. My three adult daughters and husbands were a little wary, but soon the story took over. In many ways, it is another version of a Christmas Carol. But the story's power and images enforce the message again, that we are all one family, sharing in the light of the special Christmas candle. The experience shared with my children will create a tradition for us...next year, they will all receive carved boxes, and we will read The Christmas Box, together.
