A great country Christmas album,

The Statler brothers had two trademarks - great harmonies and great original songs, both of which are in evidence on this, the first and best Christmas album they recorded.Like many others, they decided to include some Christmas classics here. Jingle bells is slowed down, but not too much, and it works brilliantly as a change from the standard speed, but I wouldn't want everybody to do it like this. They also do great versions of other classics, some of which are cleverly strung together in A Christmas medley. The six Statler originals are very much what you would expect from them if you are familiar with their other music - and they are all great songs. I don't know of any covers of these songs, but that's just another reason to buy this CD. This album will appeal particularly to fans of traditional country music, but the Statlers have a very easy on the ears style and should appeal to anybody who likes geat harmony singing.

Childhood Memories,

My parents used to play the record of this album every year at Christmas. When my husband asked me to name some of my favorite Christmas songs, of course the Statler Brothers come to mind. When I found this album here and listened to the samples, I got teary eyed. I hope that this music can have the same affect on my children that it has on me. My mother is a huge Stater Brothers fan, and after years of listening to them, and being a lover of music, I can appreciate their harmony, and absolutely love their music, especially the Christmas albums. Plus I am exceptionally emotional during the Holidays, so a little trip down memory lane is wonderful.

A Christmas Tradition,
This review is from: Christmas Card (Audio CD)
I grew up being subjected to country music against my will, and my mother was particularly fond of the Statler Brothers. I have always loved this album, though, and it ended up being one of the first Christmas CDs I bought for myself. They harmonize so beautifully together and all of the songs are very catchy. I'll never spend a Christmas that I don't play this record repeatedly.

True Meaning and Spirit of Christmas,
By
This review is from: Christmas Card (Audio CD)
Although I'm younger, I grew up listening to older country and of course, The Statler Brothers. I was even lucky enough to see a live performance when I was just 10 years old at Dollywood in Tennessee - shook Phil's hand. Very few group singers stayed together as long as this group did until their retirement a few years ago. They were gentlemen indeed and very audience-oriented. I wish their TNN show would come back in syndication.
This CD was purchased some years ago and I must say, what a wonderful tribute to the season it is. The songs, "I Believe In Santa's Cause," "I'll Never Spend A Christmas That I Don't Think of You," "Something You Can't Buy," "The Carols Those Kids Used To Sing," and "Who Do You Think?" are among the best Christmas Classics ever. Those songs capture the soul and tell a story of the Christmas Season, revealing the true meaning of Christmas. First Lines of these songs, respectively: (1) Never heard a snowman talking... (2) The year you were snow queen... (3) The greatest Christmas present is something you can't buy...; When World War II was over... (4) 'bout three nights before every Christmas... (5) There are people who are whispering... If you have to buy one CD this Christmas season, make it this one.

Simply One of the Best,

This CD, along with the Statlers' "Christmas Present," always begins and ends the season at our house. Admittedly, I am a diehard Statler fan, but these albums are part of the reason. They are an intriguing take on many of the old favorites, and they have stayed fresh and warm over the decades. In addition, the original music of the Brothers is always heartfelt and homey, making you grateful for the place where you grew up, the people who love you, and the great gift given to us at Christmas long ago. There is nothing else in the world of music that matches the harmony and heart of this group, and if you want to spend some time in a place that makes you feel cozy and safe, these are the albums for you.
