I am a HUGE HUGE HUGE fan of Chuck Fischer's pop up books. I love pop up books in general. There was this awesome exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of American History in DC that focused on the history and different types of pop up books. I was thrilled to see one of Fischer's books as well as a video explaining the process of creating his wonderful works of art. I love his books because they're just like magic by bringing these scenes into 3D.

If you ever wanted a book to get you into the holiday spirit, this is it. Immediately as soon as you open up the cover, the holiday classic jumps right at you. The pictures are absolutely gorgeous and really bring to life this classic holiday tale. My favorite is the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. Personally this has always been my favorite Ghost throughout the entire story but seeing it in all its terror and glory was outstanding here. It's exactly how I pictured it to be and the presentation is haunting and magnificent.

The only tiny blip was that one of the scenes can be easily missed because it's tucked inside of another scene. I almost didn't see it had it not been for me pondering why that certain page was thicker than the other pages. Since it's s tucked in and has to be manually opened, I suggest being quite fragile with it. The book is not something that has to be opened with gloved hands and put behind a glass case but I would recommend handling it carefully as not to tear the pop ups in anyway.

Included with the book is the complete text of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, broken up in five booklets (including one with a nifty cover). This is nice because it breaks up the reading. There is also another booklet that talks about the impact A Christmas Carol has had on the world (mentions several different movie versions including my favorite, A Muppet Christmas Carol!) as well as a brief bio about Charles Dickens.

As I've stated before with Fischer's other books, just because these are pop up books does not necessarily mean they are just for kids. These are stunningly beautiful, delicate works of art that can be admired and treasured by readers of all ages. This is a perfect book for the holidays. I think it would be wonderful to read aloud a part of the text of A Christmas Carol every night and stare in wonder at the magic come to life before your eyes.

When I opened the first page of the book Goddess gasped. She thought it was beautiful and so will you. Each page is exquisitely detailed and comes with a little pocket book telling the story of A Christmas Carol.

A Christmas Carol: A Pop-Up Book by Chuck Fischer (and of course Charles Dickens) is gorgeous! I was so so happy to be able to review this book and am equally excited to be able to read this book to the kids around the holidays! Callan will love it. It is interactive. He can sit and look at all the pop-ups and the amazing pictures as I read from each page's pamphlet. We all know the story of A Christmas Carol, and this book brings the story alive. I do not want to share it with my kids, it so beautifully put together, but of course, I will. It is too exquisite not to share! I highly recommend this as a gift, or get one just to keep for yourself to cherish over the years! Amazing book!

If you look up this book on a book seller site, it will say Pop-Up book. But calling what Chuck Fischer does with paper pop-up is like saying the ocean is a bit wet. He calls it paper engineering and that is a much more accurate term.

Fischer has retold Charles Dicken's A Christmas Carol with magically intricate paper art. Each page unfolds to amazing figures that leap off the page. The images are amazingly detailed and take the reader to Victorian England. Each page also has an insert booklet where the reader can read related chapters from Dicken's novel.

Fischer has done images for the title page (a Victorian London street scene), You Will Be Haunted by Three Spirits (a ghost trailing chains and weights, The Ghost Of Christmas Past (a spirit rising from a candle), The Ghost of Christmas Present (a harvest king with a magnificent feast is portrayed), The Last Of The Spirits (a towering black figure which fills the viewer with awe), and God Bless Us Every One (showing Scrooge and Tiny Tim in a glorious conclusion)

Chuck Fischer is an artist whose designs have been replicated world-wide in paintings, holiday ornaments and home furnishings. His designs include wallpaper and fabrics in the permanent collection of the Cooper-Hewitt Museum. He has done six previous paper engineering books. I was lucky enough to get a copy of his glorious Angels last year. These books are destined to become family heirlooms for the joy they bring to the viewer and are highly recommended for all readers, whether young or young at heart.

This beautiful re-imagining of Charles Dickens's timeless fable, A Christmas Carol: A Pop-Up Book features artist Chuck Fischer's richly painted depictions of the tale of Ebenezer Scrooge and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future, brought to life in intricate pop-up scenes by paper engineer Bruce Foster.

I cannot say enough good things about Chuck Fisher's pop-up books!! A Christmas Carol is a timeless story, but now enriched in a pop up book! The colors are rich and vibrant, and the pop-ups are so creative and detailed. The paper they are printed on is thick and of high-quality, so it will last for many many years. Included with the book is a small pamphlet that details Charles Dicken's life. There are also five, removable booklets that have wonderful illustrations that have the entire text of A Christmas Carol. This is definitely a keepsake and one to treasure. It would be perfect for gift giving this upcoming holiday season or get one for yourself. It is truly a remarkable piece of art with a timeless story to show and tell again and again.

This is such a fantastic book. I can't believe the amount of detail that is in this pop up book. The art really enhances the story. The original story is contained in small booklets pocketed on each fold out. This would be perfect to read out loud, covering one section each night leading up to Christmas. I think this would capture the attention of even the most jaded child or adult. This is the first book by Chuck Fischer that I have ever seen, but it won't be my last.

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is a classic tale that has been told during the Christmas season for many generations. This version of the story is featured in a beautiful pop-up book created by Chuck Fischer that is sure to captivate even the youngest listeners at bedtime.

A Christmas Carol is one of my favorite Christmas stories. I loved seeing the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. If this is one of your favorite tales, you will definitely want to check out this pop-up book to add to your library or Christmas goodies to share with your family.

This version of the classic story is absolutely magnificent. The pop-ups are beautiful and includes a section of the story to go with each area that the adult can pull out to read to the children (or themselves) while looking at the expertly crafted pop-up page to go with it.

I showed this book to my parents, and my Nana that was visiting from out of town when it arrived, and they all thought it was amazing. It is really a perfect book to add for your family to enjoy for generations (as long as little hands don't grab and tear the pop-ups). I highly recommend this book to everyone who loves the story and wants to pass it on to their children or grandchildren in a very special way.

* Thank you to the publisher of A Christmas Carol, Little, Brown and Company, part of the Hachette Book Group for providing me with a copy of this book for review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Gorgeous! If I had only one word to describe this latest edition of A Christmas Carol: A Pop Up Book by Chuck Fischer and Bruce Foster, gorgeous would be it.

This pop up book is a far cry from the pop books I had as a child. And in fact, such books are now put together in conjunction with "paper engineers" (in this case Foster). And I agree that a fair amount of engineering appears to be present in getting the pages to display correctly.

I think, however, it is the artistry that really grabs the reader. Each page vividly depicts a pivotal moment in the story and adds greatly to the plot's impact. I especially liked the final happy scene that displays Scrooge and Tiny Tim celebrating in a beautiful Victorian village. The only caveat I would have to giving this book to a child is due to the delicacy of the pages as well as the fact that the story itself is contained in the book on five, small, paper leaflets (along with an additional background leaflet). Thus, If I were to give this to a young child I would recommend that an adult read the book with the child.

A Christmas Carol: A Pop Up Book by Chuck Fischer and Bruce Foster would make a beautiful Christmas present for both adults and children!

Hardcover: 12 pages, Ages 9-12.

My kids havent seen this yet, but I have thumbed through it to make sure all pieces were intact. This is a wonderful, detailed book. I wish I had one when I was younger. I am putting it in our christmas box for the kids to open on christmas eve with some hot chocolate, new christman pjs, christmas movies, this book, and another one. Should be some fun memories :)
