This is a wonderful holiday story that combines Christmas and Chanukah and adoption. A fun holiday read for ages 3 to 9! A Christmas Chanukah Wish

As we know, the tradition of saying 'Merry Christmas' during winter is often replaced with the more politically correct 'Happy Holidays' which has a tendency to get on my nerves. I've grown up with friends of different ethnic backgrounds and different religions and it's never bothered any of them that I say 'Merry Christmas.' So during a time when Political correctness is so absurd that the age-old children's nursery rhyme "What shall we do with the drunken sailor?" has been replaced with the lyrics "What shall we do with a depressed pirate?", while the government don't bat an eyelid at the fact that children sit in front of explicit music videos for hours on end, it's very refreshing to come across a charming children's book about a family who celebrate both Christmas and Chanukah.

Perhaps with such an abundance of old famous children's stories, it's not unusual that no new ones ever seem to reach the level of popularity as, say, 'The Three Little Pigs', 'Little Red Riding Hood' or 'Jack and the Beanstalk.' What is evident about the most popular of the children's stories is that they take place outside of reality, but it's certainly a good thing for a child to get a dose of reality once in a while too. Irene Buggy's 'A Christmas Chanukah Wish' carries a very strong moral: The love of family and life itself is the gift that we really should be celebrating, and I feel that by combining the two holidays it also does away with any prejudices that a child may develop unknowingly when only exposed to Christmas stories.

So, in short, it's a very sweet story that's easy for children to read, easy for parents to read to their children, full of nice colorful pictures on each page, and as stated before, with a world of lightning-fast toy adverts, ultra violent cartoons and often disgraceful music videos, it was nice to finally come across a simple, thoughtful story with a heart.

This is a truly delightful book which should be read by every family who has been involved in adopting a child. The story is beautifully written and the illustrations are just perfect! I highly recommend it for Christmas/Chanukah!

"A Christmas Chanukah Wish" . . . A wonderful, new book for young children to enjoy. Katie's wish is something many children can relate to. The topics of different holiday celebrations and adoption are addressed beautifully and age-appropriately. A positively delightful story!
