Biography

The Statler Brothers were one of the most successful vocal harmony groups in the history of country music.

The group began as a gospel trio, the Statlers, though with the addition of another member they briefly took the name the Kingsmen. A band of the same name hit the charts with “Louie, Louie” and the band had to change names again. A chance meeting led to them to open a concert for Johnny Cash.… Read more in Amazon's Statler Brothers Store

4.0 out of 5 stars A fine holiday offering from the Statlers, October 28, 2004
This review is from: Christmas Collection: 20th Century Masters (Audio CD)
With their penchant for nostalgia-based material, the Statler were the perfect candidates to make a Christmas album... In fact, they've made quite a few! This disc reissues one of those records in its entirety, 1978's "Statler Brothers Christmas Card," which has a nice mix of old classics and new material. The new stuff is best: the boys pick out plainspoken, sentimental songs like "I Believe In Santa's Clause" and "Christmas To Me" that wonder what's happened to the old-fashioned, love-your-neighbor flavor of the holiday, and long for the good old days... And you really believe 'em when they sing about it... Good record; not too corny and certainly worth checking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holiday Music at its Best, July 22, 2005
This review is from: Christmas Collection: 20th Century Masters (Audio CD)
Terrific Christmas album from the Statlers. This album was done when the group was in their prime (though they always sounded great), and the original tenor Lew DeWitt was still with the group. "I Believe in Santa's Cause" and "The Carols Those Kids Used to Sing" are two of my favorites, since I've only ever heard them here and they're great songs. The medley the four of them do for the final number is great also, with each of the boys singing a traditional hymn and wrapping up together with "Silent Night". I listen to it many times each holiday season--my guess is you will, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Statler Christmas- truly home for the holidays!, February 17, 2006
This review is from: Christmas Collection: 20th Century Masters (Audio CD)
I originally bought this record, tape, and then CD when it first came out. It's as if the Statlers sing right to me not just because I'm listening, but because I'm family. I love traditional Christmas music, but these renditions stir new memories from old ones that many of us have had. The Statlers have done everything to put "Christ" back in Christmas and allowing us to relive our memories as if they were their's as well!
